Trouble was brewing at the local Starbucks on Lorain Road in North Olmsted. The suspect entered the building at around 8 a.m. on March 22nd. The school wasn't in any kind of danger, but this makes students think about what to do if the school had to go into lockdown.
Albert Einstein Academy mostly uses the ALICE protocol. ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. In light of all of the recent school shootings, it is important to know what the protocol is and how to keep staff and students safe if something happens. As soon as the threat is recognized, action should be taken to keep classrooms safe. Seconds count in these situations and the sooner students realize they are in danger, the faster they can move to save themselves.
Once students become aware of what is happening, they should barricade the door. Also, be prepared to evacuate, even though evacuation isn't always an option. These situations can be very unpredictable, so keeping everyone informed on what is going on is crucial. If the shooter does somehow make it into the room students are in, they should make as much noise and move around as much as possible. This should reduce the shooter's ability to shoot accurately. Another thing students can do if the shooter is in the room with them is throw heavy objects at them such as books, chairs, and backpacks.
And finally, when it is safe to do so, they can evacuate the building. One way they can escape is through a window. You should break a window in the top corner as opposed to the center. It is highly recommended that students should look up ALICE protocols so that they can be as informed as possible incase of an emergency at school.
