Military

Layla Purdy '21 earned a certificate for mental health service apprentice (USAF) at the Medication Education and Training Campus in 2021, and is now pursuing a MS in Industrial Organizational Psychology at UMBC. She is a behavior health technician at Cape Fox Facilities Services in the Washington, D.C. area. She also works as a behavioral health technician for the Air National Guard.

Caitlin Nickens '14 earned a MD from Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in 2018.  A 2nd Lieutenant in the the United States Air Force, she is physician at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

David Smith '13 earned a MAT from SMCM in 2014. In March 2018, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force.  He completed CSO (Combat Systems Officer) school in 2019, and is stationed at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona serving as an evaluator mission crew commander.

Justin Bowers '12 completed the paramedic program at Arizona Academy of Emergency Services. He is a zero gravity high angle rescue specialist at U.S. Space Force.

Christopher Bouslog '12 earned a MS in Drugs, Discovery, and Development from Drexel University in 2020, and is pursuing a accepted into a PhD in Neuroscience at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences. He is a training delivery coordinator for the Special Program for Embassy Augmentation and Response (SPEAR) of the U.S. Department of State Diplomatic Security Service (DSS). He is also a U.S. Marine -in the 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance (L.A.R.) battalion.

Antigone Grillakis '11 is pursuing a PhD in Neuroscience from Uniformed Services University with an expected graduation in 2023.

Alexander Thompson '10 is an intelligence analyst working as a contractor for Booz Allen Hamilton and a military reservist (prior active duty) doing intelligence work. His work as an intelligence analyst primarily involves research, writing and analysis. 

Rob Blackwell '09 is a naval aviator in the US Navy currently assigned to Naval Air Station North Island in San Diego, CA. Rob is married to Rachel Johns '08. They welcomed their first son, Jeffrey, in November 2014.

"The psych-specific information has admittedly not impacted much in my career, but the drive to understand how things work, and the ability to approach one problem (or person) from a variety of perspectives has gotten me where I am today."

Brendan Spealman '08 served in the United States Marine Corps for over six years, working in operational mission planning, strategic policy and project management. He earned a MBA from William and Mary in 2019, and is now a product manager at Cisco in the Raleigh-Duham area.

Ibrahim Gba-Kamara '03 earned a BA in Paralegal Studies from Roger Williams University in 2011, and MA in Healthcare Administration at University of Maryland University College in 2017. He has served in the United States Navy for 16+ years and is currently stationed in Naples, Italy as leading chief petty officer (E-7) for their EURAFSWA office and a defense paralegal. 

Lorna Orndorff '89 earned a MA in Counseling from Marymount University in 1992 and a MSW from the Catholic University of America in 1996. She was a social work officer with the United States Army Medical Services Corps from 2000-2007. She is now an outpatient clinical social worker for US Veteran Administration. Lorna sends her love and good wishes to her many old friends and asks them to join her in her prayer for world peace.
