As we saw in Section 3.6 regarding hypotheticals, keep in mind the following pairings:
the conditional with the imperfect subjunctive (example #1 below)
the past conditional with the past perfect subjunctive (example #2 below)
Attenzione! The main clause can follow the dependent clause, without any change in meaning—this will usually be done for emphasis: Se vincesse lui, sarei molto contento = If he were to win, I’d be very happy.
