14.1. Augmentative suffixes

The dominant suffix in this category is –one and it can be applied to a masculine or feminine word but it renders the word masculine, e.g.,

una strada > un stradone                    a street > a big street

una piazza > un piazzone                    a plaza > a big plaza

un canale  > un canalone                   a canal > a big canal
