3.4.4. Impersonal expressions that trigger the subjunctive

There are certain types of impersonal expressions that will always be followed by the subjunctive. For example, è bello che will always be followed by a verb in the subjunctive:

È bello che sia così vicino.

It’s nice that it’s so nearby.

These impersonal constructions correspond to English “it is....that...” as in “it is important that...”

È necessario che vada presto.

It’s necessary that she goes early.

È bene che abbia finito ieri.

It’s good that he finished yesterday.
