Sienna Hicks- 12 Seniors have 94 days, including weekends, till graduation. With senior year whittling down many seniors have started using the excuse of senioritis.
According to dictionary Senioritis is “a supposed affliction of students in their final year of high school or college, characterized by a decline in motivation or performance.” The origin is from the 20th century and became a trending humorous word in 2010. Most seniors will state they have the symptoms about half way through their senior year. These symptoms include:
- Lack of effort in the class
room.
- Inability to feel the need to
come to school.
- Daydreaming about gradu
ation.
- Lack of energy throughout
the school day.
The results of a survey of thirty seniors on symptoms of Senioritis showed 90% have notice a lack of willingness to go to school. 60% found themselves daydreaming about graduation in class. 93.3% found a lack of motivation to do homework. 83.3% stated they had a lack of energy throughout the school day.
The attendance shows that 78.4% of seniors have an attendance of 90% or above, this is lower than all other classes; Freshman with 92.6%, Sophomores having 95.2%, and Juniors with 85.8%. This
Last year I wrote an article about senioritis not knowing what it actually does to seniors, but with my own motivation declining I now realize what a huge effect it has on seniors. There is an actual unwillingness to go to school and do your homework or any other classroom activities.
Although most seniors feel this way, a majority of seniors will still come to school and drudge out their last few days with the graduation on the horizon. There are some ways to keep from the major side effects of senioritis.
These include:
Working on short term goals; such as getting up on time or doing homework for twenty minutes and working up to thirty.
Reminders on dates and keep the hope of graduation up in the front of your brain.
Being aware that anytime you choose to not go to school you are losing vital information you might need to graduate.
Knowing everyday you wake up and come and get through another day you are just one step closer to the end goal…. GRADUATION.
Although a lot of seniors have senioritis and feel the full symptoms of this affliction with time and hard work anyone can get through senior…..oh forget it
