There are multiple small businesses in KHS run by students. This article is to highlight two small businesses at Kirksville High and shed light on how they started and how they are run.
The first business is Pinkerton Photography and Designs run by Riley Pinkerton. She started her business in November of 2021 when she was inspired by her neighbor who had been creating projects for awhile. Along with photography, Riley creates shirts and hoodies and other wearable art. When asked about how she runs the business Pinkerton said, “It’s mostly just a side business that I do, so it doesn’t take much effort to run. When someone needs something made, I try to get it done as soon as possible while ensuring everything is how my customer desires!” Her goal for the future is to expand her business by creating more items to sell. Her Instagram is pink_photography_designs. Make sure to check her items out!
The next small business is Cam’z Jewelz by Camryn Martin. She started about a year ago during quarantine as a hobby, and then started selling her work on an Instagram account. She now sells at two local businesses, Jaylena’s Hair Salon in Kirksville, and Closets by Carmen in Macon. She also sells at craft shows all year round. When asked what goes into her business, Martin said that a large amount of time and effort goes into it and that she tries to “find new ways to get people interested and new jewelry to make.” Her future goals for her business include growing her business and finding more places to sell her jewelry at.
You can find her work on Instagram camz.jewels, or on Facebook when you look up Camryn Martin.
There are many other small businesses around our school and community so make sure to look around when shopping to support local sellers!
