Sienna Hicks-11 This year’s prom will be Saturday April 29, 2017. The time for grand march is seven o’clock, then prom is at nine and after prom is midnight to four.

The junior class, plus supervisors Mrs. Simmons and Mrs. Clark, have worked really hard to get the theme and placement of decorations for the prom this year. The theme for prom will be masquerade with a black, silver and red color theme. There will also be masks handed out to you at the door going into prom.

Although there always are complications for the prom committee to figure out, such as the colors or decorations, the junior class has also had to deal with a lack of participation on the prom committee. Aimee Nugent-11, one of the chairmen on the prom committee, stated “We have only had a couple people come to the meetings. It’s been about five girls, so we are just trying to have some more people come and meet with us and to help create a prom, cause if not we won’t have a prom.” This is an issue because they will not have enough people to help put up the decorations, which would lead to the prom just being an undecorated gym.

With lack of junior classmates coming to the meetings the prom committee has had to work harder to make sure everything has gotten done. This includes making sure they stayed in budget, had the right colors, figured out the layout of grand march and prom, and making sure they have music that is good but also appropriate. Aimee also says, “We have had to take on a lot of responsibility a lot of planning and if people don't start showing up to these next meetings we will have to put up the decorations all by ourselves.” With the lack shown the committee has had to take over a lot of the work load, which has put stress on those five girls in the committee.

With the concern of not having enough people to help with the put-up of prom decorations, Mrs. Simmons made sure that the students helping got the word out that if you are not at the meetings then you will not be getting out of class that Friday to help set up the decorations. This is different from the previous years because the junior class will only be allowed to help if they have come to more than three meetings. Since the news of this, more juniors have been willing to go to the Friday morning meetings. Nugent goes onto to say, “With the new rule, we have seen more people coming into the meetings. Actually our last meeting had a huge group of boys which is nice since they can help with heavy lifting.” Thankfully there has been more people coming to the meetings which will help when it comes time to put up the decorations for prom.

Overall the prom committee has been working hard and they hope you all will enjoy the prom they have created.
