Basketball Preview
Gracie Goings-12 Now that the fall sports season is over, basketball teams have held try outs and are ready to begin training for a new season.
The boys’ basketball team of thirty-four is only one week into season, but Head Coach Tyler Martin says that the boys have great work ethic. Since basketball has just begun, “. . .it has been slow installing our offense and defense at this point, we will slowly keep building on that up until the first game,” Martin said.
Most teams have specific routines to prepare themselves before the game begins. “We like to let the boys have their time before games - I know they are in the locker room doing some rituals (as long as they are appropriate we leave them alone for that). We do a team prayer and a little chant before going on to the court as well. I think it builds team character and is maybe a little reminder we are competing as one team, not individuals. The more you do as a team the better the unity of the group - so I love it when they have little rituals that they like to do,” Martin said.
The girls’ basketball team held try-outs and is ready to start off the season as well. “The girls are excited about the opportunity in front of them. They are eager to put on the orange and black and represent KHS” Head Coach Emily Powell said.
For the girls to work together efficiently, they have to learn where their strengths are. “We are using each day as an opportunity to improve on our skills, conditioning, and knowledge of the game,” Powell said.
The first basketball game will be on November 22 against the Highland Cougars in Ewing for both boys and girls. Girls tip off at 6:00, and boys at 7:30.
