Kirksville Boys Soccer
On Thursday, September 26th, the KHS Boys Soccer team beat Marshall for the first time since 2007 with a score of 4-1. The games in the past have always been close, but tonight was a big win for the team, who were ecstatic after the win. When the game came to an end, the whole team ran out on the field cheering and hugging each other. After the initial celebration, the whole team charged the bell and rang it with excitement and joy.
Although there were some key players during the game, everyone played an important role. In terms of those key players, Meintz talked about how senior Remy Ndiang had one of his best games. “He was involved in defense and winning the ball back for us, he was dribbling, and keeping the ball, and passing, and creating chances, he even scored some goals.” said Meintz.
Another player that really stood out was senior Moises Zuniga. “He was really incredible up top,” said Meintz. Moises was the first player to score for Kirksville during the game, later scoring again.
Two of Kirksville’s starters were playing through injuries. Senior Alec Hazen played through a knee injury and senior Moise Napo played through a quad strain and a strained hip flexor.
Mosie Napo tells Kirksville’s goalie, senior Bucardy Buster, before every game that he doesn’t have to worry about anything in terms of touching the ball, and that he’ll take care of everything.
Within the first 25 minutes of the game, Marshall scored the first goal. Kirksville remained calm, didn’t get down on themselves, and kept a good attitude. Instead, this goal only made Kirksville more determined to get the next one, and they did, courtesy Moises Zuniga.
Kirksville’s next big game was against Hannibal on October 8th. Kirksville boys went into the game determined to win, and they left with one to put in the books, with the final score being 1-0.
Kirksville and Hannibal were equally matched, making a very exciting game to watch. The crowd was cheering the whole game and both teams were very focused on the game, taking advantage of any chance they had to take a shot on goal.
Despite many taking many shots during the first half of the game, neither Hannibal or Kirksville had a goal. This all changed in the middle of the second half: senior Remy Diang scored a goal, which was the determining factor in the victory of the game.
Kirksville Boys Soccer have overcome many hardships and kept up a strong determination through all their games. They have worked and pushed through all the problems they have faced, working together as a team to get where they are today. Kirksville High School is very proud of our KHS Boys Soccer Team.
