Starting 2022 fall semester, Kirksville High School will allow student athletes to participate in two sports that occur in the same season. This change is due to the other schools in the North Central Missouri Conference allowing their students to participate in two or more sports at once. However, schools are only allowed to have two students who play two or more sports. These athletes are usually upperclassmen but can be Freshman and Sophomores.
For a student to sign up for two sports the athlete must declare which sport will be their primary sport and which will be their secondary sport. The primary sport will take more of the athlete's time, usually more practice, while the athlete will mostly attend the secondary sport’s meets or games only. The student athlete must maintain a GPA of 3.5 or having the students grades average to an 85% and will have to reapply for the position for following sport seasons. The coaches must also allow and agree to let the students play.
Some popular sports combinations in the fall are football-men's soccer, men’s soccer- cross country, Girl’s tennis- softball, and Softball- girl’s volleyball. Popular spring combinations include boy’s tennis- track and field, girl’s soccer- track and field, and boys golf- track and field.
