Viva Italia

Sienna Hicks-11 Viva Italia is the new Italian restaurant in Kirksville. I had the chance to go and eat there last week and I found it to be quite enjoyable. Located on the corner of Baltimore and Normal Street, it is in a great location, though the parking is cramped, and for the past two weeks it has been packed with people.

The food was delicious and the service was good. I ordered the Chicken Alfredo. Before it arrived we were treated to some delicious warm rolls and some mozzarella sticks that were not the best tasting. My food arrived quickly and was warm. Service was quick and they continually checked on us.

The restaurant itself was very clean and seemed less packed than it was the first couple days after its grand opening. To be fair, I went on a Monday night two weeks after opening. The only issue was that the salad was a bit small and consisted of subpar lettuce with huge chunks of tomato.

With a new restaurant, there are going to be rumors about what it is like and who exactly is running it. I had the chance to speak to Ian Crifo-12, one of the waiters at Viva Italia and a student at KHS. He was able to clear up one of the details.

One of the uncertainties was that the workers there were not being paid but instead working off of their tips.

“Our wages are the usual for Missouri. We haven't gotten our checks yet because we will be getting them biweekly, and that should be starting this week. So yes, we are getting paid,” Crifo stated.

Overall, the restaurant was great and I would fully recommend eating there if you are looking for a new place to dine.
