A Letter From The Editors
Gracie Stengel- May 18, 2022
When we began this year we didn't know what the WAWICA could be. The three of us, fresh-faced writers of a newspaper that hadn't been active in years, went to work crafting what we hoped would be something we would one day be proud of. We did it. We managed to write articles every week for nine months, 45 articles to be exact. Admittedly we didn't gain the audience we hoped for, but what we created is the new beginning to something greater. A place for future classes to share their stories. A place for the future State champion teams to tell of their triumphs. A place people can come to laugh or a place people can come to cry (Hopefully not but it can get sentimental in this journalism business). We hope to pass the WAWICA on to students who will continue on with what we have created.
While we have given so much to this newspaper it has also given so much to us. Now, 45 articles later, we are experienced writers. Our writing reflects the hours spent carefully selecting our words to deliver our message. For Lily and I, this has prepared us for our future careers in communications and media arts production, which is more than we could've gained from any conventional class. We were given the opportunity to interview our peers and teachers, learning about who they are and sharing that with anyone who would read it.
As we move on to the next step of our lives at Ohio University we look onward with smiles on our faces. Our time and hard work from our 4 years of high school will finally pay off as we walk across the stage in a week. While this letter is a goodbye to you, our readers, it is also a goodbye to who we were as students at Waterford High School. All of our best moments spent laughing together, to our stressful finals weeks, to our unique experiences with quarantines and the bomb threats will soon be memories of the past. Our advice to you is to take advantage of every opportunity you are given and say yes to anything that comes your way. Whether you love it or hate it or anything in between you will grow and it will shape you into the person you are meant to be.
Signing off for one final time,
