October 27- Gracie Stengel
Some of you may know Señora Vernon as the Spanish teacher at Waterford High School. You may have taken her class and loved it. Others may think Spanish isn't quite your thing. But there is so much more to her than being a Spanish teacher. Señora is creative and enjoys knitting which explains why she would want to own a craft store if she wasn't a teacher. Another dream of hers would be to travel and capture the experience through pictures and videos.
Ms. Vernon is also a mom of two sons. When asked what her favorite thing about being a mom is, she talked about being a role model. Giving her kids someone to look up to is important to her. She also said that doing things with them and making memories is awesome too. Her least favorite part of being a mom, if there is any, is seeing their struggles. She finds it amusing listening to her boys use their imagination. Their random conversations where they act like professionals on the topic are the funniest part of being a mom.
Being a teacher and a mom is just part of her life. She loves listening to Spanish music like Morat and 80's music like Florence + the Machine. Of Monsters and Men is also a favorite of hers. She enjoys watching Netflix just as much as the next person. Gran Hotel, Downton Abbey, and La Casa de Papel (Money Heist) are her favorite go-to shows. Of course, when she needs good comfort food her craving is her mom's potato soup. While Señora usually lives life on the safe side her guilty pleasure is getting her ears pierced. Another slightly unexpected fact about Ms. Vernon is that she enjoys listening to true crime podcasts. She thinks they are fascinating and she finds it intriguing to see patterns and reasonings behind the crimes.
Señora is also a Millennial, which if you know anything about Millenials there are lots of stereotypes. So I decided to ask Señora what her thoughts are on the trends.
SKINNY JEANS
Millennials are known for their die-hard obsession with skinny jeans. But Ms. Vernon says she doesn't love them but they are okay as long as she can breathe. The pants trends she remembers are rolled and cuffed jeans and some even colored. A popular trend when she was in high school was leggings with stirrups.
AVOCADOS
Millennials are also known for their obsession with avocados. Their daily breakfast habit of avocado toast with 'everything but the bagel' seasoning can be seen almost everywhere on social media. Señora does not participate in this trend, to say the least. In fact, she despises avocados.
PHONES
Another popular stereotype is millennials' dependency on their phones. Señora says she could live without her phone if she had to but she would prefer not to.
COFFEE VS. TEA
The coffee or tea argument is another hot topic among millennials. Ms. Vernon says that hot tea is her preferred drink between the two.
