La celebración de Cinco De Mayo
Sylvia Leister- May 5th, 2022
Cinco de Mayo is a yearly celebration on the fifth of may, commemorating the anniversary of Mexico's victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, where a ragtag Mexican militia led by General Zaragoza triumphed over the much larger and well equipped French army, raising morale.
Cinco de mayo is actually more popular in the United States than it is in Mexico. Crazy, but true. In the U.S., it is a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage. Whereas in Mexico it is more ceremonial, like military parades and reenactments.
