Boys’ Golf Recap
The Waterford High School boys golf team had a successful season, their record standing at 23-7. At Athens Country Club on Saturday, September 20th, the boy’s team got second place in the Tri-Valley Conference (TVC) Championships with four golfers in the top ten scores. Throughout the season the only obstacle the team has been unable to overcome is the Belpre High School team, who made up six of the losses. Eastern was the seventh. The boy’s team has three seniors, two juniors, and two freshmen. Each of the seven members of the team give it their all each match and come together as a team in a sport that has always been more individually oriented.
This image shows my first shot on hole three at Lakeside Golf Course on Wednesday, September 16th. The shot was about an inch away from going in, which is a hole in one as most of you probably already know. I was super pumped, but also upset that it did not decide to go in. I ended the day four over par on the front with a 38. For those of you who have no idea what that means or how golf works, par is what you should shoot on the course if you are a scratch handicap golfer. Golf handicap is basically how many strokes over par you would shoot on a day to day basis. Par for most courses is 72, however Lakeside sits at 70. Say you go out and shoot a ninety, that would make you an eighteen handicap (Strokes - 72 = handicap) with each swing that makes contact with the ball being a stroke. When only playing nine holes it is harder to calculate handicap, but all you really need to do is multiply score by two to get eighteen holes.
