Why Russia is Invading Ukraine

Russia has launched a devastating attack on Ukraine from air, land, and sea. In the capital of Kyiv, missiles are striking anything and everything without remorse, and a large Russian convoy is marching into the main streets of the city. Surely, there is a reason for all of this pain and suffering caused by Russia, right? Wrong. Putin states that he is "cleansing Ukraine of Nazis" when their democratically elected president, Volodymyr Zelensky, is Jewish. The invasion's true motives are to overthrow the government and prevent Ukraine from joining NATO. NATO is the European Union and West's defensive military alliance.
Volodymyr Zelensky
Russian propaganda of Ukraine being run by fascists since 2014 has been their justification for invading. These claims most likely stem from previous Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych, who was pro-Russian, being overthrown democratically. Russian citizens have been protesting against their government's decisions. Russian people caught protesting can be jailed. Younger people in Russia have their pictures taken and are identified so that they can never achieve higher education.
Vladimir Putin
Putin's only allies are Belarus and China, along with a few other small countries near Russia. Those who do not condemn Putin are offering shaky support, or are also opposed to the expansion of NATO, like in China's case. Instead of negotiating peacefully, and using words to solve our problems, Russia has decided to slaughter innocent lives and forcefully overthrow a perfectly peaceful government and country.
