Is fitness on your New Year's Resolutions in some way, shape, or form? Well, here is a list of popular fitness trends, whether they be workouts, diets, or classes that are in style right now.
Gym memberships, in general, have become very popular over the last year and I predict they will only continue to gain popularity in 2022. Gym memberships are great and most gyms are open 24 hours a day, which allows you to go in whatever time works for you. Another perk is that you get to choose what works for you. Making your own workouts, lifting whatever weight you're comfortable with, and being there for as long or as little as you want to. Hybrid gym memberships are ones that allow you to participate in different things. If your gym has yoga classes, dance classes, or HIIT classes, having a hybrid membership is what a lot of people love. Being able to go to anything and paying one price is great.
Ever heard of Chloe Ting? How about her two-week shred challenge? Chloe Ting became very popular in the last couple of years and went viral on youtube for her "Two Week Shred" challenge that claimed she could get you abs in two weeks. I participated in this and got my Mom to do it with me too. My Mom has been hooked ever since. Chloe Ting does workout programs that span from 2 weeks up to a couple of months. They target certain parts of your body and consist of a few videos to do daily.
If Chloe Ting is your tried and true then I would recommend trying Heather Robinson as well. People say that when Chloe gets too easy, they work out with Heather and definitely feel it. Robinson does the same types of programs and has a very popular one that is in swing right now called "HR12WEEK 2.0" These two both have a wide array of no equipment videos and light-weight ones.
Cycling classes have also gained popularity over the last couple of years and have become exactly what some people were looking for when it comes to working out. I have never been to a cycling class but would love to try one. From what I've gathered it is a pretty intense hour of lots of pedaling and sweating. A lot of cycling classes rank how well you're doing and some have a "leaderboard" that shows how well you are doing compared to everyone else in the class that day. I think that sounds interesting, but that is coming from someone who is very competitive. It may however be annoying to someone that doesn't feel the need to see stats like that. Cycling classes like this have been known to show results as they are very challenging. So, if you think you'd like biking in a room with a lot of people, this may be for you.
If you've ever had an immunity shot, these are similar. Juice cleanses have very mixed reviews and personally, I am not sure if I'd recommend them. Usually, they range from 1 to 7 days depending on the program. I do think I would try one, but no longer than two days and that is still pushing it! They have lots of different flavors and usually give you instructions on when to drink each one. I've seen leafy green concoctions, fruity ones, and even some "dessert" flavored ones. The closest stores to purchase juice cleanses are in Columbus; however, there are some companies that will ship them straight to your house, which is convenient. If you think you could live off of juice for a few days for good benefits, go ahead and try it, but I think I'll stick to the gym.
Fitness watches are totally all the rage and specifically Apple Watches. Now yes, I know all the other watches work perfectly fine, but Apple Watches are the best. I am a tried and true fan and love all of the things I can do on it. In terms of fitness it controls your steps, miles walked/ran, flights of stairs climbed and closely monitors everything and shows your activity from throughout your day. You can set goals for yourself to accomplish which are "move", "exercise" and "stand." "Move" is how many calories you want to burn, exercise counts your minutes and you can even make a goal for how many hours of the day you should be standing. It will even send you reminders just in case you're watching a good movie and need to stand before the hour is up. Your goals can be changed anytime and you can track each individual workout, for which it has many categories. Clearly, I love it and totally recommend getting one.
Yoga is nothing new to the world of fitness, but certain forms and creators are. From hot yoga to spiritual yoga and even YouTubers like "Yoga with Adriene", you're sure to find one you like. I have done all three of these forms of yoga and there are many more. Yoga is great for relaxing mentally and physically and is also great for flexibility, mindfulness, and tuning in to your mind/body. Hot yoga definitely takes a certain type and that is not me. My first(and last) ever hot yoga class nearly made me pass out. It's nothing crazy like 100*, but it is pretty warm in there. I made it about 20-30 minutes through and had to tap out and wait in the car for my Mom. Lol. It was sort of embarrassing. However, it was fun while it lasted and could be for you-- especially if you like to sweat.
Spiritual yoga has become very popular over the last 6-12 months and can be done in many ways. The one I am semi-familiar with is chakra-inspired. Chakras are very interesting and are a whole other subject that you should read about if you're interested. You can use guided meditation along with certain chakra-based yoga videos which can be found on youtube. Crystals are incorporated sometimes and also a whole other subject. All of these are very interesting.
The last, and very popular form I mentioned is Yoga with Adriene. Adriene is a youtube yoga instructor who has been growing her platform since 2012. She does many programs and is the founder of "Find What Feels Good", her yoga subscription service. She is very relaxing and doesn't do any extreme yoga which is nice for someone like me who loves yoga but isn't quite what you'd call flexible. Yoga has been known to help many successful athletes increase their flexibility and perform better in their sports.
All in all, fitness is important. Even if you don't consider yourself an athletic or fitness-type person, it should still be a part of your life one way or another. If fitness was a part of your New Year's Resolutions or not, use this as a sign to start or continue your fitness journey and remember that everyone takes rest days. Having a healthy relationship with fitness is the most important step in becoming a better version of yourself.
