Winter Activities
December 15- Gracie Stengel
Ladies and gentlemen, it is finally December! This is not a drill! Cue the Christmas music, grab your ugly sweaters, and let's go! Getting in the holiday spirit can be tough. With finals, shopping, more finals, and wrapping we can get caught up in the mess and forget about all the fun we can have in the winter. I'll hit you with a list of 10 things you can do this season.
Ice Skating
Bundle up and hit the ice with your friends, family, or significant other. This can be a good way to get the family out of the house and be active in these snowy months. Skating is fun for all ages and can be enjoyed locally.
2. Visit a Tree Farm
Pack the family into the car and head to a local tree farm! Take some cute pictures to remember the trip and enjoy the scraggly little trees. Maybe even pick out your tree for this year. Some people enjoy cutting it down themselves and loading it on the car to take home and decorate.
3. Decorate a Gingerbread House
This is where we get creative! You can bake the gingerbread from scratch and hand-make the icing if you are looking for an authentic experience. If you want a fun but simple activity you can buy pre-made DIY gingerbread sets from almost any grocery store. This can be fun especially when the weather has you stuck in the house.
4. Throw A Party
A party is a great way to bring people together during the holiday season. White Elephant and other popular gift exchange methods are sure to offer a good time. Christmas -themed charcuterie boards are also a popular choice for parties.
Bundle up again, put on your gloves, and head out into the fresh snow. Start off with small compact spheres and roll them into the snowman of your dreams. Gather up some sticks and a spare carrot to make him come to life.
Round up the family and hit the street. Christmas caroling around the neighborhood can be a quick and fun activity to spread some holiday cheer. Visiting assisted living facilities could also spread some joy this holiday season.
Dig out your sleds and inner tubes and head for the hills. Sledding can be fun for all ages. Steep hills and snow ramps can add an extra thrill to your experience. When you're all done you can finish off your day with some warm hot chocolate.
Grab your rolling pins and cookie cutters. Following the old family recipes (or the directions on a box) can bring families closer together this time of year. It is always fun cutting them out and decorating them when they come out of the oven. Of course the best part is enjoying them when you're all finished.
Everybody loves presents. Shopping for the perfect gifts for your loved ones can be stressful but fun when you do find the one. Wrapping them up in fancy wrapping paper and bows can also be an exciting pastime in December.
Snuggle up in your PJ's and binge watch all the classics. Share your snacks with your friends and family. You can also check out our article "Best Christmas Movies of All Time" for some inspiration!
