This week, the children have been learning about Remembrance Day and why it is important to commemorate those who sacrificed their lives in the First and Second World Wars. We have also been thinking about the impact of war on people around the world, even today. The children reflected on the impact of war on the Global Goals. We have spent time thinking about those who lost their lives in the two World Wars and conflicts since.
Thank you to everyone who supported the Poppy Appeal.
On our November INSET day, the staff collaborated to begin reshaping our school's Behaviour Policy. Our focus was on developing an approach that emphasises emotional regulation and the crucial role of emotional literacy in managing behaviour. We explored strategies to help children understand and manage their emotions effectively, fostering self-awareness and self-control. This included examining how we can create a learning environment that promotes emotional well-being and provides children with the tools they need to navigate social situations with confidence and empathy. We believe that by prioritising emotional literacy, we can empower our children to make positive choices and build healthy relationships, leading to a more harmonious and productive learning environment for all. We will continue to work on this in school, and we plan to launch the new Behaviour Policy in the Spring Term.
The INSET day also saw staff engaged in professional development focused on enhancing oracy across our curriculum. We began by participating in a webinar led by Oracy Cambridge, which explored the theory and research behind effective oracy instruction. This provided a strong foundation for the rest of our afternoon, where we collaboratively planned practical strategies to develop our children's speaking and listening skills. We explored ideas such as incorporating more structured talk opportunities, debate, and role-play into our lessons, as well as ways to create a classroom culture that truly values and celebrates spoken language. We're excited to put these new approaches into practice and witness the positive impact on our children's confidence and communication skills!
Children in Reception have been learning about circles in Maths and have linked it to the artist Kandinsky. What beautiful circles!
This year at Wincham CP School, we will be supporting Save the Children's Christmas Jumper Day on Thursday 14th December. We are asking the children to come to school in their Christmas jumpers, in return for voluntary donations.
In the current economic climate, we understand that buying new Christmas jumpers can be expensive. Therefore, we are asking you to have a look in your wardrobes and cupboards to see if you have any pre-loved Christmas jumpers that you would be happy to donate to school for other families to make use of.
If you, or someone you know, is looking for a Reception place for September 2025, please get in touch.
We have tours of the school each week, so you can see 'real life' in our happy, vibrant school.
It's always nice to have some lovely feedback! Parents often mention in passing how happy their children are, how much they have enjoyed their learning, or how they are grateful for a particular member of staff who has gone above and beyond.
Scan the QR code or click the button below for an opportunity to thank a member of Team Wincham for their hard work and efforts to provide the best opportunities and care.
We're excited to announce that Wincham Community Primary School is participating in the Asda Cashpot for Schools promotion!
Every time you shop at Asda using the Asda Rewards app, you can select our school to receive a donation. It's a fantastic opportunity to raise much-needed funds for our school, simply by doing your regular shopping. Every little bit helps, and we appreciate your support in making Wincham an even better place for our children to learn and grow.
Remember, every time you shop and choose us, Asda also adds extra funds to our school's Cashpot! For more details, please visit the Asda website or download the Asda Rewards app.
