Happy New Year everyone!
As we start a brand new year, it's a great time to think about things we'd like to achieve or improve. Just like grown-ups make New Year's Resolutions, children can too!
Resolutions don't have to be big and scary. They can be simple things like:
Reading a new book every week. We have a fantastic library here at Wincham, full of exciting stories waiting to be discovered.
Learning all of our times tables.
Trying a new hobby. Perhaps you'd like to join a sports club, learn to play a musical instrument, or start collecting something interesting.
Being kind to others. A smile or a helping hand can make someone's day.
Remember, the most important thing is to try your best and have fun!
This week, Wincham Community Primary School was transformed into a winter wonderland as the children enjoyed the snowy weather. Wrapped up warm in their hats, scarves, and gloves, the field became a hub of excitement and laughter.
From building snowmen (with some very creative noses and arms!) to having epic snowball fights (all in good fun, of course!), the children embraced the wintery conditions and made some wonderful memories.
We believe in the importance of outdoor play in all weathers, and it was fantastic to see the children's creativity and problem-solving skills flourish in this snowy environment.
I'm delighted to share the outcome of our recent whole school art project with you. Each class, from Reception to Year 6, created a canvas that depicts scenes, artefacts and themes from a different time period taken from our History curriculum. These canvases are now on display as part of a giant timeline in the Key Stage 2 corridor.
Teachers will use this timeline to teach the chronology of the different periods of History, so children can see where the period they are studying 'fits' within the wider world timeline.
It's been exciting to see the children admiring the art work they helped to create this week, and for them to see that the art they have created will be used as a teaching resource for years to come.
Hedgehogs and Badgers classes stepped back in time this week with an exciting trip to Chester! We explored the fascinating Grosvenor Museum, where the children got to handle real Roman artefacts and learn about life in Chester during Roman times.
The highlight of the day was definitely our walk around the city walls with a real Roman soldier! He showed us how the Romans defended Chester and even taught us some Latin commands. It was a fantastic day full of history and fun, and the children's behaviour was impeccable. A big thank you to all the parent helpers who joined us on the trip!
Teachers have been busy planning interesting and exciting lessons for the term. All of the information about the curriculum for each class can be found on the class pages of the school website.
Please see the link here to the latest Parent Carer forum newsletter.
We have recently been working closely with The People's Learning Trust, a newly formed multi academy trust with extensive links to Everton Football Club. In particular, we will soon begin a 10 year project to improve English teaching and learning, with support, training and guidance from the National Literacy Trust.
Teachers and teaching assistants have been invited to attend their first joint INSET day, which will be held at a central venue on 1st September 2025. Our Governors have made the decision to move the November INSET day from 3rd November 2025 to 2nd September 2025. This will ensure we can still dedicate a day to essential school-based training at the start of the year such as safeguarding and classroom preparation.
This means that school will be closed to pupils on both 1st and 2nd September 2025. School will reopen to all pupils after the October half term on 3/11/25. We understand this may cause some inconvenience and we appreciate your understanding. If there are individual concerns where this impacts a planned holiday, please see me to talk about it.
The full term dates can be found on the website here. To add the dates to your personal calendar/ mobile device, click here.
There are a range of coughs, colds and the like in school at the moment. All classes have windows open to increase ventilation, and staff are constantly reminding chidlren about hand hygiene, the importance of hand washing, and using tissues when sneezing/ coughing. Unless children have a high temperature, or are genuinely too unwell to attend, they should still be present in school.
If your child is unwell and will not be attending school you must let us know the reason for the absence before 9.00 am by calling the absence line 01606 668380. You should call the absence line before 9am each day until your child returns to school to give an update.
When you leave your message please do not just say that your child is "poorly" or "not well". You should provide the following information:
What symptoms your child has
When your child started to feel unwell
If you will be making/have already made a doctor’s appointment
Is your child able to attend school with calpol/painkillers/anti biotics etc?
When do you expect them to return? Ensure this is realistic and in line with the NHS advice
Do you need support with anything else?
If your child has sickness or diarrhoea they must be kept off school for at least 48 hours after the last attack of vomiting and / or diarrhoea. If parents adhere to this rule, hopefully these nasty bugs will not spread from one child to another easily.
For more information on specific illnesses please refer to the NHS website https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/is-my-child-too-ill-for-school/

It's always nice to have some lovely feedback! Parents often mention in passing how happy their children are, how much they have enjoyed their learning, or how they are grateful for a particular member of staff who has gone above and beyond.
Scan the QR code or click the button below for an opportunity to thank a member of Team Wincham for their hard work and efforts to provide the best opportunities and care.
There are a range of services we can signpost to, including financial support. There is a wide range of information available on the school website. This includes the Foodbank, free uniform, wider support with rising cost of living, and a range of other things.
If you are struggling financially, please don't hesitate to speak to Mr Boot or Ms Boag-Munroe.
