Our Key Stage 1 children recently embarked on an inspiring educational visit to Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre, a trip that truly brought their space topic to life and echoed the spirit of Mae Jemison, the first African American woman to travel to space. The children have loved reading Look Up in class, all about astronaut Mae Jemison and how she has inspired people.
Just like Mae, who was encouraged to "look up" and dream big, our pupils gazed in awe at the mighty Lovell Telescope, sparking their curiosity about the universe. They participated in interactive workshops, exploring the solar system, learning about the planets, and discovering how telescopes help us see far into space. The children were fascinated by the exhibits and asked insightful questions, demonstrating their keen interest in the topic, much like Mae's own inquisitive nature.
This visit wasn't just a fun day out; it was a valuable opportunity to reinforce classroom learning in a memorable and engaging way. Seeing the vastness of space firsthand has ignited their curiosity and deepened their understanding of our place in the cosmos. We hope it inspired them to reach for their own stars, just as Mae Jemison did.
We would like to thank all the staff and parent helpers who made this trip possible. The children returned to school buzzing with excitement, eager to share their newfound knowledge. We encourage you to ask your children about their favourite parts of the visit and continue the conversation about space at home. Perhaps you could even share the story of Mae Jemison and her incredible journey.
This experience exemplifies our commitment to providing enriching educational opportunities that inspire a lifelong love of learning. We believe that learning extends beyond the classroom walls, and visits like this play a vital role in broadening our children's horizons and encouraging them to dream without limits.
Thursday the 20th of March will be a non uniform day in exchange for Easter hamper donations. Children doing PE on this day can come into school in suitable clothes for sport.
This week, Wincham Community Primary School is transforming into a literary wonderland! We're thrilled to host the Scholastic Book Fair, coinciding perfectly with our World Book Day celebrations. It's a fantastic opportunity to ignite a passion for reading in your children and expand their home libraries.
The Book Fair will be open in the library from Thursday 27th February until Tuesday 4th March, open after school from 3.25pm to 3.35pm. It will also be open at lunch time for pupils in Key Stage 2, offering a wide selection of books for all ages and interests. From captivating picture books to thrilling adventures, there's something for everyone. And with every purchase, you'll be helping to earn free books for our school!
To add to the excitement, we'll be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday the 6th of March with a range of fun activities. We encourage children to come dressed as their favourite book characters, ready to share their love of reading.
Reading is a gift that lasts a lifetime, and we believe that fostering a love of books is one of the most important things we can do for our children. Come along to the Book Fair, join in our World Book Day celebrations, and help us inspire a new generation of readers. We look forward to seeing you there!
Public libraries are hosting their highly successful Fancy Dress Swaps again this year from 1st February in preparation for World Book Day. Using the scheme could not be easier: donate any unwanted costumes to the library or see what outfits they have and take them for no charge, it’s that simple.
Participating libraries are Barnton, Frodsham, Hope Farm, Lache, Little Sutton, Neston, Northwich, Sandiway, Weaverham, Wharton and Winsford.
And why not use the opportunity to borrow a book or join the library while you’re there? Joining a child is free and easy and does not require ID. There are no late charges for Under 13s.
At Wincham CP School we apply a robust day to day process to track and follow up on absence and poor punctuality. We ensure registers are completed accurately and on time, twice per day, in accordance with the timings set out below. This indicates which pupils are absent from or are late for school.
Our gates open at 8.30 and a member of staff is on the playground at 8.45. Doors are opened to school at 8.50.
We expect all pupils to be in their classroom by 8.55 ready for registration. If your child is in class at this time, they will be marked as present.
Registers close at 9.15. If your child arrives at school after 8.55am but before 9.15am, they will need to enter the school by the main entrance and the parent will need to sign them in. They will be marked as late and will receive the L code.
If your child arrives at school after the registers have closed at 9.15 they will be marked as late and will receive the U code. This is an unauthorised absence for that session.
Afternoon registers will be taken at 13.15 for EYFS and KS1, and 12.45 for KS2.
In accordance with the ‘Education (Pupil Registration) (England) Regulations 2006’, if your child arrives after the registers close, they will receive a mark, code U, that shows them to be on site, but this will not count as a present mark and it will mean they have an unauthorised absence. This may mean that you could face the possibility of a Fixed Penalty Notice or other legal action if the problem persists.
Children who are consistently late for school are disrupting not only their own education, but also that of other children. Where persistent lateness gives cause for concern, you will be invited to a meeting to resolve the issues. If there is no improvement following this meeting, further action will be taken which may include referral to external agencies.
You may approach the school at any time for support and advice if you are having difficulty getting your child to school on time or maintaining regular attendance.

This guide and podcast, created in collaboration with online safety consultant Dr Claire Sutherland, delves into the online safety risks of WhatsApp and offers expert advice on how to safeguard any young people who use the platform.
Please note that whilst we are sharing this information to support parents, at school we don't believe that WhatsApp is suitable for primary school aged children, and would refer parents to WhatsApp's minimum age of 13.
Please see the leaflets here for free courses for parents on topical issues. In particular there is a free online session about Supporting Healthy Screen Use, something school staff are often asked about.
