At Wincham, we believe in the power of "growth mindset" – the idea that abilities and intelligence can be developed through dedication and hard work. We encourage our children to embrace challenges, learn from their mistakes, and see effort as the path to mastery. By fostering a growth mindset, we help our pupils develop resilience, perseverance, and a love of learning that will benefit them throughout their lives. We know that when children believe in their ability to grow and improve, they are more likely to achieve their full potential.
Mike Mullen's assembly this week showed how if we push out of our comfort zone, just a bit, we can do amazing things.
What an incredible day of excitement and skill we had at Wincham Primary School! Ex-BMX world champion, Mike Mullen, visited us and wowed the whole school with his amazing BMX stunts and tricks.
Key Stage 2 children were enthralled by Mike's display of bike handling skills, and the children in Years 5 and 6 even had the opportunity to try out some BMX bikes themselves and learn some tricks. We saw some budding BMX stars in the making!
The highlight of the day had to be when Mr. Garner-Laing bravely volunteered to have a go! With Mike's expert guidance, he managed to balance with his feet on one tyre (with a few wobbles!). And to top it all off, Mike showed us his incredible jumping skills by soaring over Mr Boot on the ramp! What a spectacular sight!
This exciting event wasn't just about amazing tricks; it was a fantastic opportunity to see growth mindset in action! Learning BMX skills takes perseverance and resilience. Even the most skilled riders fall sometimes! But by embracing challenges, learning from mistakes, and believing in their ability to improve, our children (and teachers!) showed a true growth mindset approach. Just like learning in the classroom, developing new skills takes effort and a positive attitude. Well done to everyone who participated and showed us what they can achieve with a 'can-do' spirit!
A huge thank you to Mike Mullen for inspiring our children and giving them such a memorable experience. It was a fantastic day that demonstrated the importance of perseverance, practice, and having the courage to try new things.
We're excited to invite you to our upcoming "Stay & Do Phonics/Guided Reading" event! Early Years and Key Stage 1 children will be doing Phonics lessons and children in Key Stage 2 will be doing Guided Reading lessons.
Come and see how your child is learning to read, and get some top tips on how to support them at home.
Date: Thursday 23rd of January
Time: 8.55am - 9.20am
We look forward to seeing you there!
We've recently had a couple of concerning incidents in the school car park. Firstly, a near miss occurred when a driver pulled into a parking space too quickly, narrowly avoiding another car. Secondly, a car was unfortunately hit by another driver who then left the scene without stopping.
Thankfully, no one was hurt in either incident. However, these events serve as a reminder that we all need to be extra vigilant when using the school car park.
Please:
Drive slowly and carefully. Remember that children are unpredictable and may not be aware of moving vehicles.
Be aware of your surroundings. Take extra care when reversing and be considerate of other drivers and pedestrians.
Report any concerns. If you witness any dangerous driving or incidents in the car park, please report it to our school office or directly to our PCSO, Diane Wiggins. Diane has regular drop in sessions in the Community Centre.
Let's work together to keep our school car park a safe place for everyone.
Please see the latest safety guidance from Cheshire West & Chester Local Authority.

It's always nice to have some lovely feedback! Parents often mention in passing how happy their children are, how much they have enjoyed their learning, or how they are grateful for a particular member of staff who has gone above and beyond.
