This week is Anti-Bullying Week. We believe that everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and happy at school. That's why we work hard to create a kind and inclusive environment where bullying behaviour is never tolerated.
Following on from International Kindness Day last week, where we celebrated the power of small acts of kindness, Anti-Bullying Week feels like a natural continuation of that important message. After all, kindness and respect are the foundations of a bully-free environment. Throughout this week, we've been reminding our pupils that choosing kindness not only makes others feel good but also creates a happier and safer space for everyone. By showing empathy and understanding, we can challenge bullying behaviour and build a school community where everyone feels valued and belongs.
This year's Anti-Bullying Week assembly was all about 'Reaching Out'. We explored this theme through a series of engaging activities and discussions with the children. We started by defining what bullying is and the different forms it can take, including verbal, physical, and cyberbullying. Then, we used role-play scenarios to help children recognise bullying behaviour and understand its impact on others. Most importantly, we empowered our pupils to 'Reach Out' by providing them with practical strategies for dealing with bullying. This included how to report incidents, seek help from trusted adults, and offer support to those who may be experiencing bullying. We also discussed the importance of kindness, empathy, and building positive relationships with others. Our aim was to equip every child at Wincham with the knowledge and confidence to stand up to bullying and create a safe and inclusive school environment for all.
Our school admissions are managed by Cheshire West & Chester Council, who are responsible for ensuring sufficiency of places for all children. Due to lower numbers of children being born in the local area, the LA are consulting on reducing our Published Admission Number (PAN) from 45 to 30 for the Reception year group. This will be effective from September 2026.
The consultation documents are available here.
The proposals will not affect children who are currently at the school, nor will it impact the admission of younger siblings of children who are currently at the school.
We were delighted to welcome so many parents and carers into school this week for our 'Stay & Do' Maths Calculations event. It was wonderful to see so many of you actively engaged in learning alongside your children!
For those who couldn't make it, the aim of the event was to showcase the exciting ways we teach maths calculations here at Wincham. We use a fantastic approach called Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract (CPA).
Concrete: This is the 'doing' stage. Children use physical objects like counters, blocks, and number lines to solve maths problems. It helps them really grasp the concepts!
Pictorial: Next, children move on to drawing pictures to represent the objects they used in the concrete stage. This helps them visualize the problem and make connections.
Abstract: Finally, children use numbers and symbols to solve the problem. This is the traditional way of doing maths calculations.
During the 20-minute lesson, you had the chance to see this CPA approach in action across different year groups. We hope you found it informative and that it gave you some ideas for supporting your child's maths learning at home.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended. Your involvement in your child's education is invaluable to us. We look forward to welcoming you back to Wincham for future events!
In Key Stage 1, we focus on developing a strong understanding of number relationships. Mastering number bonds (pairs of numbers that add up to a given number) is a key part of this. Knowing their number bonds helps children solve problems more efficiently and builds their confidence in maths. To make learning fun and engaging, we use Numbots, a fantastic online platform that turns number practice into a game. We encourage all our Key Stage 1 children to spend time on Numbots regularly at home to boost their number fluency and develop a love for maths.
Quick recall of multiplication tables is essential for success in Key Stage 2 maths. It allows children to tackle more challenging concepts with confidence and ease. To help our pupils master their multiplication facts, we use Times Tables Rock Stars, an exciting online resource that makes learning fun and rewarding. We encourage all our Key Stage 2 children to log on to Times Tables Rock Stars at home and rock out with their times tables! Regular practice will help them become fluent in multiplication and build a solid foundation for future maths learning.
The pupils in KS2 did incredibly well last week and took part in England Rocks - a times tables competition run by the internationally renowned, award-winning app and learning platform, Times Tables Rock Stars.
England Rocks required children to correctly answer as many multiplication and division questions as possible, to give their class and school the best chance of winning.
The competition was fierce with 201,591,236 questions answered collectively by 384,658 pupils from more than 4,543 schools and 30,188 classes around the country!
Our school stats were astonishing too. On average our top class, Spiders, answered 255 questions correctly per pupil, with the best performing pupil answering an amazing 4,407 questions correctly in total. I am sure you can appreciate that those stats are out of this world!
At Wincham, we strongly believe in the importance of being able to recall multiplication and division facts quickly and using Times Tables Rock Stars at home is one way we can help the children help with this. We encourage a 'little and often' approach - 3 minutes practice a day, 4 or 5 times a week is a good target.
If you have any questions about TTRS or how to support your child at home with their Maths, please speak with your class teacher.
There will be further TTRS competitions held over the year so look out for the next one!
At Wincham Community Primary School, we believe in making maths as clear and understandable as possible for every child. That's why we have a Maths Calculation Policy that follows the Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract (CPA) approach. Our Calculation Policy outlines how we use the CPA approach across different year groups and for different types of calculations. This ensures consistency in our teaching and helps children progress smoothly through the stages.
How Parents Can Use the Policy
We encourage parents to familiarize themselves with our Maths Calculation Policy, which can be found on the school website. By understanding the CPA approach, you can support your child's learning at home in a way that aligns with our teaching methods.
Here are some ways you can use the policy:
See how we teach: The policy provides examples of how we teach specific calculations in each year group.
Use similar language: Using the same vocabulary and methods as the school can help avoid confusion for your child.
Support homework: You can use the policy to understand the methods your child is learning and provide appropriate support.
Continue the learning: Even beyond homework, you can use the CPA approach to reinforce maths concepts in everyday situations.
There are a range of coughs, colds and the like in school at the moment. All classes have windows open to increase ventilation, and staff are constantly reminding chidlren about hand hygiene, the importance of hand washing, and using tissues when sneezing/ coughing. Unless children have a high temperature, or are genuinely too unwell to attend, they should still be present in school.
If your child is unwell and will not be attending school you must let us know the reason for the absence before 9.00 am by calling the absence line 01606 668380. You should call the absence line before 9am each day until your child returns to school to give an update.
When you leave your message please do not just say that your child is "poorly" or "not well". You should provide the following information:
What symptoms your child has
When your child started to feel unwell
If you will be making/have already made a doctor’s appointment
Is your child able to attend school with calpol/painkillers/anti biotics etc?
When do you expect them to return? Ensure this is realistic and in line with the NHS advice
Do you need support with anything else?
If your child has sickness or diarrhoea they must be kept off school for at least 48 hours after the last attack of vomiting and / or diarrhoea. If parents adhere to this rule, hopefully these nasty bugs will not spread from one child to another easily.
For more information on specific illnesses please refer to the NHS website https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/is-my-child-too-ill-for-school/

Thank you.
This year at Wincham CP School, we will be supporting Save the Children's Christmas Jumper Day on Thursday 12th December. We are asking the children to come to school in their Christmas jumpers, in return for voluntary donations.
In the current economic climate, we understand that buying new Christmas jumpers can be expensive. Therefore, we are asking you to have a look in your wardrobes and cupboards to see if you have any pre-loved Christmas jumpers that you would be happy to donate to school for other families to make use of.
If you, or someone you know, is looking for a Reception place for September 2025, please get in touch.
We have tours of the school each week, so you can see 'real life' in our happy, vibrant school.
It's always nice to have some lovely feedback! Parents often mention in passing how happy their children are, how much they have enjoyed their learning, or how they are grateful for a particular member of staff who has gone above and beyond.
Scan the QR code or click the button below for an opportunity to thank a member of Team Wincham for their hard work and efforts to provide the best opportunities and care.
We're excited to announce that Wincham Community Primary School is participating in the Asda Cashpot for Schools promotion!
