MAKING & USING NOTES.
CAPTURING ESSENTIAL INFORMATION | INDEPENDENT LEARNING | PAGE 136
An important routine task is to create a set of notes that capture the key ideas in a topic. These might come from lessons or lectures and, when you’re working independently, can be created from books, websites, journals and other media sources. The process of making notes should help to engage with the material, to think about it, organise it and make sense of it. This can be an important part of the initial learning process and, later, can serve as a useful tool to support revision or retrieval practice.
