My Reflection 3/26/19
Gators on down the bayou, hand grenades, sunshine, accents, red beans & rice, and music everywhere you turn. THE TRUE NEW ORLEANS EXPERIENCE. I absolutely loved this trip, each and every moment was just perfection. My best friend and I took a trip down to Louisiana during her last spring break. This place is jam packed with a culture of its own and it was present at every turn. We began our trip with beignets at Cafe Du Monde which were truly the most terrific things I have ever had the pleasure of delighting my taste buds with. Once we filled our tummies with all that sweet sugary goodness, we took a walk over to Jackson Square where we people watched and took in some very needed sunshine. We walked around the french quarter for some time after this stroll in the Square and became familiar with the architecture, smells, and beauty of this area. Strolling through the French Market full of Mardi Gras left overs, fish, masks, and voodoo knick-knacks led us to a jazz bar where we had lunch, listened to music, and prepared ourselves to become one with the city. After dropping our things off at the Airbnb and getting ready for the night, we returned to Bourbon street to enjoy the famous hand grenades, a mysterious alcoholic beverage that truly knocks you out like a hand grenade if gulped down too quickly. The beauty of NOLA is being able to walk the streets, drink in hand, without the fear any consequences...just be careful while doing so and stay with your drink at all times. We took a stroll with our drinks to Pirates Alley, Royal street for live street music and the infamous corner building with ferns lining the balcony. Our night continued with more food, drinks, live music, and bars, the perfect way to spend a 70 degree sunny afternoon in NOLA. Mid City Pizza was a must at the end of the night. Our second day, we started off with a Cemetery tour, greeting Marie Laveau, the voodoo queen and other well known New Orleans icons in St. Louis 1 Cemetery. Seeing and hearing why these cemeteries are made above ground, who is there, and how this process was developed and continued was very interesting. From there, we took an Uber to Weswego, LA for the Ultimate Swamp Tour. This tour allowed us to see several alligators in their natural habitat and pet a baby alligator all while enjoying the sun and swamp breeze. After our tour, we ate lunch at a Frenchmen Street jazz bar and continued on to Bourbon street from there. Ticklers piano bar was our spot! My friend and I became friends with people from Tennessee, Wisconsin, Alabama, Ireland, and Louisiana while singing, dancing, drinking, and making fun conversation. We learned that this place is welcoming to everyone who wants to put themselves out there and take in all that NOLA has to offer. To wrap this up, all I have to say is go to Tropical Isle and ask for a shark attack. Have your cameras ready and trust me. This just might lead to dancing on stage at the end of the night and ending up on barstoolchicago.
