My Reflection 7/22/2014
My parents got married in 1989 on July 22nd and celebrated their new marriage in Hawaii for their honeymoon. 25 years later, they shared the news that they were going back but this time with their kids...that means me! We arrived in Honolulu where we were greeted with flower leis and drove over to our first spot- the hotel. This trip solidified my desire for a jeep wrangler even though my family had despised being squished together in the back seat of the car as the tall Torphy's they are. I loved being able to take the roof off the car and drive in the warm Hawaiian air not worrying if my hair was a mess or not. We stayed on Waikiki beach at a gorgeous hotel and spent a day on the beach in the sand. We climbed Diamond Head mountain and enjoyed the view at the top with each other. From Honolulu we made our way to Maui where we enjoyed the true beauty of these islands away from touristy areas. Our condo had floor to ceiling glass windows with views of the ocean, jungle, and cliffs. We even watched sea turtles swimming outside on the beach from the comfort of our balcony. Every angle on this island was beyond breath taking, the natural beauty of the terrain is unmatched and truly makes you feel like you are on a different planet, given you live in Chicago. We went snorkeling at Molokini, a crescent shaped crater in the ocean known for its reefs and marine life, there we swam with sea turtles, electric eels and so many native fish. My dad is a fish fanatic and he was certainly in his dream world on this trip. The Road to Hana was the next stop on our list. This road trip is a guided tour of the natural wonders along the island, it is a windy road filled with waterfalls, black sand beaches, sacred pools, and stretches of farm land. This trip concluded with a trip up to the volcano Haleakala, where we were seated among the clouds watching the sunset. Hawaii is unlike any place I have ever been. I would recommend this trip to anyone 10/10 a thousand times over.5/21/25
I had the best vacation day ever! I came to Honolulu to speak with flight attendants about safety topics for my job and decided to use a vacation day the next day to enjoy more of the island. My coworker and I went to the botanic gardens and Kualoa ranch where we did an awesome UTV tour (a bigger ATV). We finished at the beach and had lovely meals each night we were there but boy oh boy it is expensive! I had a great day off! Hawaii is like no other place on the planet.
