My Reflection 1/2017
Roma, the city of love and pizza, oh and pasta and wine, and gelato, and just allllll the food. This city is embellished with art, architecture, and thousands of years of history. I had the privilege of studying Baroque and Renaissance art with classmates from my university during the winter. Surprisingly Rome is quite chilly in the early months of winter and I actually had to purchase boots and a wool coat to survive. We studied art in person and were able to point out the differences in architecture and design from different eras and centuries by the end of our study. We had church and palace tours each day of class and walked miles to get to each location. Being among buildings and masterpieces such as the Colosseum and the Basilica made me feel as if I was transported back to a time of emperors. The detail and grandeur of the buildings on every corner and in every piazza was overwhelming. Seeing famous works of art such a Rafael's last super, Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel, and works from Caravaggio in person is an experience I would recommend every to have in their lifetime. Just writing this makes me want to go back and take my family with to share these beautiful places. I wouldn't trade this experience for the world and I could go on for days so I'll leave it at this: when in Rome...do as the Romans do...assuming that is marvel at beautiful art and eat too much pasta and gelato.
