Colleen Richards

Specialties

Colleen Richards

MHC-LP

Colleen offers a humanistic approach that is grounded in the importance of the therapeutic relationship. She recognizes that therapy is a process that requires getting to know the psychological, biological, social, and spiritual influences that holistically make up our personal identities. She has experience working with clients on identity formation and looking at how intersectionality can impact our self-concept. Colleen focuses on what her clients wish to gain out of therapy and finds joy in supporting her clients throughout that process. She values holding space for her clients as they discover or revisit ways to build upon their innate strengths.

Colleen provides a warm therapeutic environment that welcomes deeper questions, such as how do we sit with the range of emotions that come with being a complex person. She enjoys using a psychodynamic approach to explore memories, relationships, and family dynamics and offers a range of interventions that are based on each individual's needs. Some interventions include CBT, DBT, and mindfulness strategies to help clients cope with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, self-worth, and self-confidence. Colleen has always had a passion for the arts and painting. Creative expression can be used in her sessions to assist clients in opening up to different areas of self. Colleen completed her Masters in Mental Health Counseling from Baruch College.
