Virtual Science Club

At Gillespie Primary School, our Virtual Science Club is up and running using Google classroom. This allows pupils from different bubbles the opportunity to share investigative work completed at home or at school as they work towards achieving CREST awards.

Nursery and Reception pupils investigated how to melt a hole through 'Ice Blocks' (from the British Science Week Activity Pack - Our Diverse Planet). They measured the temperature of the ice using probes attached to data loggers.

Year 1 researched British native trees to choose 'A Special New Tree' (Crest Superstar challenge) for local tree planting.

Year 1 also completed the 'Brilliant Birds' (Crest Superstar) challenge. They explored how nests are made from natural materials, made nests, placed them outside and then looked a week later to see how durable they were over time.

Year 2 completed the Practical Action 'Floating Gardens' task. They learnt about floods in Bangladesh; investigated properties of materials and made floating gardens which they tested and then made improvements to.

Year 2 completed 'Bridge Blunder' (Crest Superstar challenge). They investigated strong shapes to inform their bridge building then tested the strength of their bridges.

Year 5 learnt about the 'Astro-Nappy' (British Science Week Activity Pack - Exploration and Discovery). They investigated absorbency and used their knowledge of insulation to create their own astro-nappies.
