Pupils from Years 3 - 6 at Gillespie P.S. are currently participating in an after school science club. The focus is on engineering. Pupils will be entering the Primary Leaders Engineering competition. Some of the Year 5 and 6 Science Committee members are helping to lead group work.
Pupils learnt about tooth decay and examined its effects on teeth by observing what vinegar does to egg shell over time.
They tested how much sugar was in drinks using 'Diastix' and a colour chart.
In January and February, the pupils learnt about chemical engineering and became chemical engineers as they tested toothpastes and designed their own.
In March, we will be learning about what Andrew Charalambous (PhD MIMechE CEng Honorary research Fellow UCL) - a mechanical design engineer does. The pupils are preparing questions to ask him.
