Autumn 1, 2019: A new child science leadership team was established at Gillespie. The outgoing committee read applications of candidates and wrote questions to ask them during interviews. The new committee (Year 5 and 6 pupils) are curious about science and are keen to collaborate and improve their communication and leadership skills.
October 7th, 2019: The Science Committee led an assembly for World Space Week highlighting the achievements of the female scientists celebrated in the film 'Hidden Figures'.
Autumn 2, 2019: The Science Committee led a lunch time STEAM Club for Year 1 pupils. They are developing questioning and leadership skills and the Year 1 pupils have been working scientifically: using simple equipment and taking simple measurements.
Spring 1, 2020: The Science Committee led a lunch time STEAM Club for Year 2 pupils. The focus was on engaging Year 2 pupils in hands-on activities to help them find answers to their own science questions. These were related to what they were learning about in class: Animals, including humans.
February 10th, 2020: The Science Committee led an assembly in acknowledgement of 'International Day of Women and Girls in Science'. A research scientist spoke about her STEM cell work.
