ANNE WEISGERBER

Anne Weisgerber’s experience with the Saskatchewan Games began in 1982 as a volunteer on the Zone 3 Sports Council. Anne then volunteered as Mission Staff at the 1984 Summer Games in North Battleford, and as Zone 3 Chef de Mission at the 1986 Winter Games in Yorkton. She has stayed involved with the Games ever since. In 2006 she decided to try something new and became the Melfort Team Manager for her daughter’s badminton team. That same year, the Zone Sport Councils and Regional Recreation Associations merged to become the Districts for Culture, Recreation and Sport. In effect, Anne also merged into the South West District and became South West Team Coordinator. She describes the Games as an incredible learning experience for everyone who takes part - from athletes and coaches, to mission staff, to host committee and volunteers. “I have learned so much about teamwork, and met so many people, many of whom have become friends,” she boasted. As for the Games’ legacy, she says it’s hard to choose one, but believes it lies in a combination of personal development, lifelong friendships, the opportunities they offer young athletes and community development.
