ALWYN PICHE

Alwyn Piche served up his first experience with the Saskatchewan Games in 2002 when he competed in volleyball at the 2002 Saskatchewan Winter Games in Humboldt. He says he was proud to represent Northern Saskatchewan and describes the experience as “amazing” - noting the delicious food and high level of competition. In 2015, his athletic experience allowed him the opportunity to coach the Under 15 Boys Volleyball Team alongside his dad Greg Hatch in Estevan, which he remembers fondly. Since the Games, he has played volleyball at the College, University and National levels as well as participating in tournaments internationally. He currently coaches elementary and high school youth volleyball at Birch Narrows School and has held volleyball clinics throughout Northern Saskatchewan. “I'm a big believer in giving back to the sport and the community like people did for me when I was growing up, and the experience gave me the opportunity to do something extraordinary,” he said. Further, he believes the Saskatchewan Games’ legacy is to display the incredible talent shown by athletes across the province and bring people together through participation and competition.
