JAMES ROZON

James Rozon participated at the 1978 Saskatchewan Winter Games in Moose Jaw as a member of the Zone 6 men’s gymnastics team. Competing at the age of 14, the 1978 Games competition was the first of many competitions he would participate in during his impressive gymnastics career. He said his Games experience was challenging as he was one of the younger athletes, but it helped catapult him to the podium at higher level competitions. Aside from the funding the Saskatchewan Games provides for sport-related facilities, equipment and education, James says the Games’ legacy is apparent in the way they inspire communities to participate in new sports throughout the province. Later in life, as a national level athlete James competed at numerous Canadian Championships, consistently taking home gold or silver in 1980, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1986, and 1987. Additionally, he placed fourth all-around with the Huskies at the 1983 Canada Winter Games and achieved a first and second place finish at the 1985 and 1986 Canadian Interuniversity Athletics Union Championships. Internationally, James competed at events including the 1983 Pan American Games and the 1984 Olympic Trials. In 1985, he was an alternate at the World Championships and in 1987 Rozon competed at the Worlds, achieving a 9.00 point average. He wrapped up his athletic career competing for Canada at the 1988 Olympic Summer Games in Seoul, South Korea. Attributing to other areas of his sport, James also coached, has been recognized as a Builder and was certified as a national level judge.
