LYLE CAMPBELL

Lyle Campbell says he was "hooked” after his first experience with the Saskatchewan Games program during the 1988 Summer Games in Melfort, when he was employed by the City of Melfort as the Community Leadership Programs Coordinator. In 1989, he accepted the Zone Sport Coordinator position with the Zone 8 Sports Council and in 2008 as Executive Director for the Lakeland District for Sport, Culture and Recreation. This contributed to Lyle’s 33-year involvement with the Saskatchewan Games as staff, Mission Staff and Chef de Mission over 17 Games events. From a personal perspective, Lyle says “I have always played and been involved in a variety of sports since my youth, and the Saskatchewan Games has allowed me to continue to be involved in sport and sport development on a District and Provincial level. The Games also contributed to my personal and professional growth and helped to create many lasting friendships over the years.” Beyond the obvious health benefits of being physically active in sport, he believes perhaps the most lasting legacy of the Saskatchewan Games lies within the athletes themselves, as it not only provides an opportunity for skill development, but also for building leadership skills, teamwork, positive relationships and confidence.
