JOHN LEE

For John Lee, the Saskatchewan Games facilities helped create an emotional connection to physical spaces which continue to trigger cherished memories from the multi-sport events he contributed to. It all began in 1980 when he managed the Saskatchewan Summer Games in Estevan. He was then assigned as the first-ever Zone Sport Coordinator for Zone 7 at the 1984 Summer Games in North Battleford. John also served as a representative on the Saskatchewan Games Advisory Committee and eventually assisted with their transition from an Advisory Committee to its current non-profit organization status as the Saskatchewan Games Council. He assumed the role of Executive Director of the Sport Division in 1999 until 2002 when he went on to become CEO of the Canada Games where he contributed greatly to the success of the 2005 Canada Games in Regina. John says he values the opportunities he had to impact young athletes and volunteers during their multi-games experience, and applauds the legacies created within each host community through facilities constructed for the Saskatchewan Games which continue to support athlete development. John also continues to be involved with sport alongside his two sons for their project called Buckets and Borders which is focused on making basketball a more inclusive sport world-wide.
