CLIVE TOLLEY

Clive Tolley, Mayor of Moose Jaw, experienced his first Saskatchewan Games as a volunteer at the 1972 Saskatchewan Summer Games in Moose Jaw. “The first ever games was a feather in the cap for Moose Jaw with support from all the service clubs, physical education teachers, and many, many volunteers pitched in to make it a success,” he said. Clive then went on to compete in badminton at the 1982 Saskatchewan Winter Games in Prince Albert, and he also coached hockey at one Winter Games. Clive says he was extremely proud of the volunteer efforts demonstrated by Moose Javians as they hosted the first ever Games which were very successful and spawned the events to follow. He detailed his thoughts on the Games’ legacy describing it as “many athletes, coaches and officials received their start at the Saskatchewan Games and went on to careers that include Canada Games, World University Games, Pan American Games, Commonwealth Games, World Championships and Olympics. It gives many first-time multi-sport competitors an opportunity to see how they compare to athletes from across the province and the potential to be recruited to post-secondary institutions.”
