Typhoon Pitang destroyed several houses in Barangay Maaliwalas. Faye’s house was one of those. She had been absent from class for two days. Near the creek where Faye’s house used to stand, several men are building makeshift houses.)
Faye: Thank you, Georgie, for helping. Look at these big bundles. We put all our
things here.

(At the Manio’s residence)
Mrs. Manio: How was Faye and her mother, Georgie?
Georgie: They’re now at the Municipal Hall, Mom. They’re with the other evacuees.
Mrs. Manio: At the Municipal Hall? It’s overcrowded there. Imagine, all the typhoon victims are packed there like sardines in such a small area.
Mr. Manio: The children might get sick.
Georgie: Mom, Dad, I’ve got an idea! (Georgie whispers to his Mother’s ear.)
Mrs. Manio: (Face brightened up) Why not, Georgie! Go and tell Faye right away.
(That night, at the Manio’s residence)
Mrs. Angeles: Thank you for accommodating us, Mrs. Manio. We won’t be a bother for long. My husband and our neighbors are now making makeshift houses for us. Soon, we will transfer to a safer place.
Mrs. Manio: You can stay as long as you want. There’s a bathroom at the back of the garage. And there’s a cooking and washing area over there. You’d be safer here.
Faye: (To Mr. Manio) What about the car, Sir?
Mr. Manio: Don’t worry, Faye. I’ve asked permission from the barangay to park it in front of the house.
Georgie: Wow, cool! Now we can study together and help each other, Faye. (Makes funny gestures with hand) You, my reading, me, your Math!
