Every birth of a child is celebrated in the family including extended families. This is the first important event in a a child’s life. The child begins to live outside the mother’s womb. Before a mother gives birth, she and her husband prepare many things such as bonnets, mittens, footwear, and a crib where a baby stays once in a while. The baby soon grows into a child who starts to play with toys from the time he/she could hold the toys. There are different toys for different ages.Small toys should not be given to a child at an early age. He/She might put them into his/her mouth and swallow them.
Another important event in a child’s life is his/her baptismal day. This is when the child is welcomed to the church of his/her family. This signifies the faith the child is expected to practice and that would become his/her basis for religious and spiritual growth.
The family often gathers for a child’s birthday. Some families celebrate the child’s first and seventh birthdays, which are considered important events. Such gathering or occasion becomes part of the traditions the family observes, such as Christmas, New Year, fiestas or festivals, and other celebrations that are important to the family.
At age four or five, the child starts to go to school. As a start, his/her parents would enroll him/her in a preschool for a nursery class. At this time, the child starts to learn things around him/ her. He/She would learn how to sing, play, dance, color, and count or do simple math.Parents usually enroll their child in a preschool within the community where they live so the child could meet other children from his/her community.
