Potion & Juice assets by Scribble-Nebula
Across the Great Ocean, there are Pokémon who appear visually different from their base, most recognizable forms. These Pokémon are called Variants!
A majority of Variants can be obtained via acquiring and using items called Potions and Juices, each of which relates to certain themes and allows you to create a design under those themes as well! Other Variants are event-only and allow for customizing specific Pokémon such as Mimikyu or Applin!
✦ Out-of-character, we use the term Variant to distinguish between base canon designs and fan-made themed designs. There is no real terminology for this in-world however, so feel free to reference this phenomenon in any way you wish!
✦ Potions are items that can be used to turn your character into a Variant! These items encompass a few different themes, and are the way to apply one overarching design theme to a character.
➤ For example: An Astral Potion may be used on a Growlithe to create a Growlithe with a starry aesthetic. I can put stars in its mane and change its overall color palette to be purple, blue, and black to make it look like the night sky.
✦ Juices are items that can be applied in addition to Potions. They encompass specific themed add-ons, such as crystal growth or luminescence.
➤ For example: A Crystalline Juice may be used on my Astral Growlithe to now give it diamond claws. I could not normally achieve this with only an Astral Potion because the gemstones do not fall under an Astral Potion's overall theming.
✦ Potions and Juices can be obtained through events, but they can also be found in Legendary dungeons that can only be explored by characters at and above Level 90!
✦ There are also event-only Variants that can be earned only during specific events and only if they appear at the time! Many of them can be seen yearly during Holiday Hills, but they may not be available every year! Be sure to keep an eye on the Holiday Hills when they roll around in case an elusive Variant appears!
✦ All Variants (including Event Recruits) may be dispelled by using a Reversion Potion (5,000p). If you wish to apply a different Potion/Juice to a character that already has one applied, you will need to use a Reversion Potion before applying a new Variant!
Variant designs are subject to the same rules as general character creation for both gijinka and feral designs!
Please check in #design-check or via #submit-a-ticket if you are unsure if a character's design would be allowed within the rules of the group!
Below is a list of all the Potions currently available to earn, and a few of the themes they cover! For a better idea of how Variants with these Potions may look, check out the Variant Visual Samples!
✦ Can be used to give your character the appearance of a real-world animal's fur, skin, coat, and/or patterns.
✦ It cannot drastically alter your character's overall anatomy! Wings may be added to Pokemon without them, but these must be based on real-life animals (i.e. not mythological or fantasy), and be must be checked in #design-check!

Birds, foxes, bears, different breeds of cats/dogs, fish and other aquatic creatures, snakes, etc.

Ancient civilization, medieval times, Paradox Pokémon, ancient/futuristic technology, modern day, cyberpunk
》 Characters From Different Time Periods 《
➤ Characters with a Temporal Potion applied to them may take on aesthetics and characteristics of different time periods (medieval fantasy, futuristic cyberpunk, sci-fi, etc.) however there are a few things to keep in mind if you decide to go this route!
➤ If your character's design or backstory uses anything that is specifically from the distant future or distant past that could not feasibly exist in the current time period (including technology, civilizations that fell or do not exist yet, etc.), they must have been brought to the current time period by Tempo the Dialga.
➤ How they ended up here is up to you, but the short of it is that they cannot naturally be from the current era!
➤ You are allowed to have a Temporal character arrive from a different time period even if technically their design and story could exist in the current technological constraints. All characters who arrive from a different time period must completed the An Age Apart Personal Story task!
➤ If you do not intend to use anything out-of-the-ordinary that could not exist in the current time period, you do not have to make your character arrive from a different time period.
✦ Can be used to give your character a cute, wondrous appearance!

❄️ Winter, festive, Christmas, New Years Celebration, snow, ice, mountains, Valentine's Day
🌸 Spring, blooming flowers, April Fools, Easter Eggs, lush grass
☀️ Summer, tropical beach, camping, oceanic, water, sunny day, hot, coral, fruit trees
🎃 Fall, falling leaves, trick or treating, cottagecore, Halloween, harvest
》 Holiday Hills Seasonal Recruits 《
➤ During Holiday Hills, you can encounter and recruit Variants that were specially made for the themed dungeon! These designs count as Seasonal and are specifically made to incorporate the theme of the event (which may not necessarily involve the season itself).
➤ These recruits are created by staff members and community members and are considered "official". They are open for all members to use!
➤ As Holiday Hills Dungeon Variants are only designed at their base stage, members may then create their own designs for future evolutions! The evolved designs must still resemble the original, unevolved design however and it's recommended that you check the new design in #design-check!
➤ Holiday Hills Dungeon Variants may not be altered in anyway until 3 months have passed since the event. This is to prevent people from recruiting event Variants with no intention of actually using them. Once 3 months have passed, you may use a Reversion Potion (5,000p) to return the design to its base, canon form. After that, you may apply new Potions and/or Juices to them.
➤ Out of respect for the Variant designers, we highly encourage members to not use Holiday Hills as a place to encounter recruits with the intention of not using their Seasonal designs. This rule is primarily in place for those who may end up wanting to go a different direction with a character they received from Holiday Hills several months down the line.
Below is a list of all the Juices currently available to earn, and a few of the additions they cover! For a better idea of how Variants with these Juices may look, check out the Variant Moodboards & Inspirations!
✦ Can be used to adorn your character with crystals other precious minerals!
✦ Potential add-ons include...
Gemstones, crystal growths, crystal coat, bright colors, stones, muted colors
✦ Can be used to grant your character glowing body parts!
✦ Potions that don't cover bioluminesce or other elements that emit light, you'll want to use this Juice!
✦ Potential add-ons include...
Runes, magical, mystical, glowing patterns, prismatic, rainbow, bioluminescence
✦ Can be used to give your character features from almost any monster you could think of!
✦ When using Monster Juice, you must choose a specific monster! The list of monsters is extremely broad so you have plenty to choose from, but you have to choose one!
✦ See Rules for Monster Juice below for full information on what is and is not allowed for designs that use it!
✦ Potential inspirations include...
Harpies, zombies, ghosts, manticores, selkies, dragons, mythical creatures
✦ Potential add-ons include...
Wings, tails*, horns, scales, fins and gills, harpy legs, feathers, claws, ghostly limbs
》 Rules for Monster Juice 《
➤ The character must still be humanoid! A character may not have a face or head with this juice, but the face cannot be animalistic or anthro!
➤ Changes made to the body persist! Unlike the Transformation Scarf which allows for temporary transformations, traits added to a character using Monster Juice do not simply go away after a set amount of time!
➤ Character designs inspired by cursed entities (i.e. undead, ghostly, lycan, vampiric, etc.) require a Cursed Vial to access their abilities. Where Monster Juice is used for aesthetic purposes, using a Cursed Vial will allow you to fully delve into the story behind how your character became cursed and access the unique abilities that may come with their affliction(s).
➤ Up to 2 major anatomical changes / additions can be made to a character using Monster Juice. For example:
Largely changing the shape of a character's tail, such as changing a Glaceon's sleek tail into a furred dragon's tail (1 change)
Largly changing the shape of a character's wings, such as turning a Crobat's bat wings into feathered wings (1 change)
Adding up to 2 additional tails added to any Pokémon that already has a tail (2 changes)
Adding wings and a tail on a Pokémon without either feature (2 changes)
Adding up to 2 additional heads to a canine Pokémon to create a Cerberus-themed design or additional heads to a reptilian Pokémon to create a hydra-themed design (2 changes)
➤ Minor anatomical changes / additions may include:
Small spikes added to the body (without requiring a Fiendish Potion)
Adding a single pair of small horns
Slightly enlarging or reducing features, such as making an Absol's horn or claws longer
➤ Monster Juice cannot grant traits that may belong to regular animals unless a mythological creature can be named that it is based on. This means that Monster Juice cannot grant traits from lycanthropes such as werewolves, weretigers, etc.
Example #1: If you wished to give fox ears and / or a tail to a character, the character would have to be explicitly based on a kitsune, gumiho, or similar fox-like entity.
Example #2: You can use Monster Juice to give a character feathered wings without having to use Ethereal Potion and its specific aesthetic or without an Animal Potion with real-life animal patterns. However, if you wished to give a character feathered wings through Monster Juice, it would have to explicitly be based on a harpy, griffon, or other similar feathered creature.
To gain traits for the gijinka that are associated with werebeasts, your character must be a lycan themselves under the effects of a Cursed Vial.
➤ All designs using Monster Juice are judged on a case-by-case basis and must be checked and approved in #design-check!
✦ Can be used to cover your characters in foliage and plantlife!
✦ Note that the effects of this may be achieved by using a Seasonal Potion as well! In certain cases, using the Potion may be recommended over trying to stack the Juice with something else!
✦ Potential add-ons include...
Vines, lilypads, flowers, leaves, weeds, moss, shrubs
✦ Can be used to turn a part of your character's body into an unnatural material!
✦ Unlike the other Juices, this Juice changes the materials that the body is made up entirely into something else rather than simply adding on top of the body.
✦ Note that the effects of this may be achieved by using the future variant of a Paradox Potion! In certain cases, using the Potion may be recommended over trying to stack the Juice with something else!
✦ Potential add-ons include...
Wooden, metallic, crystal, porcelain, glass, plastic, holographic, or elemental skin / body parts
Below is a list of reoccuring Event Recruits that may appear in the event shop from time-to-time! They are unique in that they are specific to one species and/or evolutionary line, but they otherwise function as a regular recruit!
Due to the nature of their exclusivity however, Event Recruits are not allowed to have Potions or Juices applied to them, but they may use Hue Berries!
A special recruit whose appearance is a little bit quirkier than most! Rather than the typical longsword, this Honedge has instead opted to possess a different type of weapon!
✦ This Honedge can take on the form of any kind of weapon, including oddly shaped bladed weapons and swords!
✦ The design should maintain most of Honedge's primary characteristics: its eye(s), a tassel or something equivalent that can act as an "arm" of sorts, or the patterning on its sheath and/or sash.
✦ Designs must be approved in the #design-check channel, and your team must have an open recruit slot to purchase this item! Alternatively, you may buy this item to apply to an existing, approved Honedge character.
✦ You can change an existing Armory Honedge's weapon by purchasing this item and applying it to them again!
