Potions & Variants
Across the Great Ocean, there are Pokémon who appear visually different from their base, most recognizable forms. These Pokémon are called Variants!
A majority of Variants can be obtained via acquiring and using items called Potions, each of which relates to certain themes and allows you to create a design under those themes as well! Other Variants are event-only and allow for customizing specific Pokémon such as Mimikyu or Applin!

Overview
✦ Out-of-character, we use the term Variant to distinguish between base canon designs and fan-made themed designs. There is no real terminology for this in-world however as more often than not, Variants are born the way they are.
✦ Potions are items that can be used to turn your character into a Variant! These items encompass a few different themes, and are the way to apply one overarching design theme to a character.
➤ For example: A Celestial Potion may be used on a Growlithe to create a Growlithe with a starry aesthetic. One can put stars in its mane and change its overall color palette to be purple, blue, and black to make it look like the night sky.
✦ Potions can be obtained through events (such as Holiday Hills), but they can also be found in Legendary dungeons that can only be explored by characters at and above Level 90!
A list of these dungeons can be found below. All of them contain the same potions! It's simply a matter of what "theme" you wish to write/draw for!
These dungeons include:
Sunless Arboretum, Profane Forum, Everlasting Gardens, Soulheart Forge, Mysterious Geoglyph, Ocean Tempest, Buried Relic, Purity Forest, Gourmet Buffet, Cloudy Heavens, Secret Walls of Blackwood Manor, Forgotten Ruins, Crystalline Depths, Lover's Cave, and Darklight Crypt
✦ There are also event-only Variants that can be earned only during specific events and only if they appear at the time! Many of them can be seen yearly during Holiday Hills, but they may not be available every year! Be sure to keep an eye on the Holiday Hills when they roll around in case an elusive Variant appears!
✦ All Variants (including Event Recruits) may be dispelled by using a Reversion Potion (5,000p). If you wish to apply a different Potion/Juice to a character that already has one applied, you will need to use a Reversion Potion before applying a new Variant!
✦ Potions are not a way to alter Pokemon's bodies intensively. They must still resemble the silhouette and carry traits of the Pokemon to pass! Extra appendages or the changing of body types will be case-by-case depending on how far designs stray from the intended Pokemon.
Variant designs are subject to the same rules as general character creation for both gijinka and feral designs!
Please check in #design-check or via #submit-a-ticket if you are unsure if a character's design would be allowed within the rules of the group!

Below is a list of all the Potions currently available to earn, and a few of the themes they cover!
✦ Anything natural — living and animate, or not. This can include nature-based mythical creatures (i.e dryads or elementals) as well as themes inspired by real nature, both living and extinct. Must not have human/artificial influence intended.
✦ Themes include...
Nature, animal inspiration, nature-based mythical creatures, plants, fruits and unprocessed foods, natural glowing/bioluminescence, organic material based coat/skin (such as bark/rocks/etc.)
✦ Anything inspired by the arts, sciences, or otherwise man-made!
✦ In some cases, if your design features minimal changes outside of color palette, a Splash Berry may be recommended instead!
✦ Themes include...
Melodic, music, dance, visual arts, theatre, abstract patterns, cartoons, rubberhose, living dolls, holiday aspects, cooked foods, desserts, homunculi, robots, golems, artificial lighting, man-made items, non-living items
✦ Can be used to give your character a starry and/or space-themed appearance! This also encompasses ethereal or otherworldly beings.
✦ Themes include...
Space, cosmos, stars, planets, blackholes, galaxies, Milky Way, supernova, celestial objects, ethereal or otherworldly beings
✦ Anything inspired by horror, dread, or otherwise "evil". Monsters and cryptids would fall into this category.
✦ Themes include...
Thriller, unnerving, scary, sea monsters, grim reaper, fear, apocalyptic, decrepit, horror genre, diseased, demons, hellhounds, cryptids, vampires, haunted dolls
✦ Anything meant to be fun, magical, or whimsical! This includes themes inspired by myths, folklore, and magic, as well as more grounded fantastical themes like playing cards and patchwork toys! Can also include living dolls awakened by magic (like Pinocchio)
✦ Themes include...
Dreams, child-like whimsy, patchwork, magical, witches, wizards, myths, folklore, playing cards, holiday aspects, fairytales
Event Recruits

Below is a list of reoccuring Event Recruits that may appear in the event shop from time-to-time! They are unique in that they are specific to one species and/or evolutionary line, but they otherwise function as a regular recruit!
Due to the nature of their exclusivity however, Some Event Recruits can have Splash Berries applied.

A special recruit whose appearance is a little bit quirkier than most! Rather than the typical longsword, this Honedge has instead opted to possess a different type of weapon!
✦ This Honedge can take on the form of any kind of weapon, including oddly shaped bladed weapons and swords!
➤ OFF-LIMITS: At this time, Armory Honedge cannot take the form of any sort of firearm.
✦ The design should maintain most of Honedge's primary characteristics: its eye(s), a tassel or something equivalent that can act as an "arm" of sorts, or the patterning on its sheath and/or sash.
✦ Designs must be approved in the #design-check channel! Additional Potions cannot be applied to this Special Variant at this time.

A special recruit whose appearance is a little bit quirkier than most! Wanting to branch out from its usual appearance, this Mimikyu has spent a lot of time putting together its new disguise!
✦ Instead of the usual Pikachu-styled costume of a regular Mimikyu, this one can take on the appearance of most other Pokemon!
✦ The costume can be based on any Pokemon! The only Pokemon off-limits is Arceus! Keep in mind this is not a free-pass to have an otherwise off-limits Pokemon-- your Mimikyu should still resemble a Mimikyu in some way!
✦ Designs must be approved in the #design-check channel! Only Shiny Potion and Splash Berries may be applied to this Special Variant at this time.

This Pikachu is able to be dressed up into five different costumes corresponding to each of the five Contest conditions (Coolness, Beauty, Cuteness, Cleverness, and Toughness), and learn exclusive moves, which are linked to these costumes!
