Introduction:
The sense of touch is one of our most important senses, It is one of the first senses that develops in a human being and is active from before birth, Sensory play encourages development of cognitive skills, speech and language, fine motor skills and social emotional, which is essential for children and what better than to explore them through play in a safe environment.
Procedure:
Carefully color each of the 9 drawings, then cut them out along the outlines.
Using markers or crayons, write the title “Scent and Textures Book” on the front cover. On the back cover, add a special dedication to the child.
Cut 3 fabric rectangles measuring 3 x 2 inches each. Ensure all rectangles are the same size to support scent discrimination.
Fold each rectangle in half and sew the two sides, leaving a small opening at the top (this will allow you to insert the scent later).Fill each pouch with a different scent (coffee, cinnamon, flowers) and sew the opening closed.
Glue each drawing onto a separate folder sheet, matching it with the appropriate texture:
Teddy Bear: Use felt, Cut out a circle or oval on the teddy bear's belly, then glue the felt behind the opening so it shows through.
Window: Use a piece of sponge to represent the texture of sponge.
Bedroom: Glue a small wooden stick to represent a furniture texture (like the dresser).
Sandbox: Use sandpaper. Cut out the rectangle where the sand appears and glue the sandpaper underneath so it’s visible and touchable.
Bird: Add a soft feather to the image to simulate the bird’s texture.
Band-aid: Attach a real band-aid to the drawing.
Paddle Ball: Rubber Band (For added safety, secure the rubber band by placing a piece of tape between the rubber band and the page.)
Coffee flower and Cinnamon: Glue with the tacky glue each scented pouch next to its corresponding illustration on the folder sheets.
To assemble the book, thread yarn through the top holes of all the pages and tie a knot to secure it. Then repeat the same process with the bottom holes to finish binding the book.
