Collecting world banknotes is fun, educational and rewarding. Most World collectors agree that once they have discovered the rich colourful designs/history of just a few of the series the globe has to offer, it gets hard to be selective. The amazing aspect of collecting WORLD notes is that you can pursue either a handful or a hundred different nations! You set the limit to the scope of your collection!
Cash is targeted as a dirty "problem" by Bill Gates, VISA & other organizations who started the "Better than Cash Alliance. This ultra powerful lobby group champions Visa, CC & easy to trace digital currencies. It was started in 2012,* and have effectively employed propaganda to champion digital commerce over cash. They created posters to link the COVID-19 pandemic to "dirty money." Several retail outlets subsequently laid off cashiers & transitioned to self-check outs. According to Merchant Machine's "Countries Most Reliant on Cash" article, only 1% of the people in the UK use cash. ATM's were shut down as a result. No organizations (or governments) champion cash. Cashless populations continue to grow while cash use shrinks (*Now 80 countries! 10/04/26)Â
World special serial numbers, errors & replacements notes are typically cheaper than Canadian, US, Australian or other nation's notes with similar attributes. This means that collecting banknotes is way cheaper than you think! It makes collecting currency accessible for all ages (& all budgets).Â
Collecting banknotes is a relatively new hobby! It has not been around as long as collecting coins! For that reason, many coin dealers are just like you - learning what to collect! This can translate into huge savings for you - if you dig a little/learn what is collectible. This was one reason I started this site!
Online resources like Numista, the Banknote Museum BNM, Coin Community Forum CCF, Cointalk, Collector's Universe, Canadian Paper Money (& others) make it easier now than ever before! Even Social Media sites (Reddit, FB, IG) have become fun resources to view/share.Â

There are far fewer currency collectors than coin hunters. Some coin collectors get so hooked on the many features of currencies (like signature combinations, special serial numbers, short prefixes, idiosyncratic designs like the CDN "Devil's Face" or the Seychelles 50 Rupee "SEX" note) that they abandon coins altogether! Also there is a huge faction of Non-circulating Coin collectors who buy exclusive mint products which rarely increase in book value. Some of these "NCLT" collectors switch to buying "specimens" or "proofs" (banknotes that were never meant for circulation). Eventually, some of the World globe-trotters get hooked on keeping currency of nations they travelled to as well. Â
Personally, I got hooked on collecting the different signatures combinations of Canadian banknotes. After I travelled to Jamaica, the Eastern Caribbean & Europe, I broke free from the Bank of Canada "box" and branched into World notes. Since then, I have never looked back.
Whether you collect according to World Motifs (animals, people or planes) or by nation (Canada, Mexico or USD) try at least to buy higher grade (EF to Uncirculated) examples. And remember to peruse this site & others to educate yourself. Be patient: there are many sources to acquire notes from & never feel pressured into buying anything from any particular buyer. Impatience costs us money. Exercise due diligence (be sure to correctly identify the note you are thinking about purchasing) & HAVE FUN!Â
For over 20 years, I have been helping collectors assemble their dream sets one note at a time. Now, let me see if I can help you!
