SITES & FORUMS

(for a list of Sellers & Buyers of World Currency)

Education

Accessing HELPFUL information on banknotes is as effortless as the swipe of your index finger. However, sometimes the sheer volume of information can be overwhelming.   And despite the amount of information, it is one thing to acquire it and quite another task to interpret the data correctly.  I am flabbergasted at the number of posts I see about washing banknotes or stating how the poster's note is "near-mint" (-terminology reserved for coins).

If you want to learn more about correct terminology, numismatics, or to join a club then check out the many sites I've listed below.  For those only interested in paper money- be prepared to wade through countless coin sites as coin collectors far outnumber exclusive paper money hobbyist/connoisseurs. That is one of the reasons I started this hobby site (to list useful sites & possibly provide some helpful information re: currency collecting).

I have organized the SITES (below) into four sections: 1) Reference/Forums; 2) National/Central Banks (that issue currency); 3) RCNA Chapters & 4) Supplies.

I recommend joining the FORUMS (don't just lurk) because you can learn so much more if you keep actively involved.  If you register to just one site, you will be able to post images of your acquired notes, trade or buy notes & post pertinent questions.  Check out the National/Central Banks if you want to get specific info on a particular currency. Typically, this may be just recent data on prefix releases or announcements re: Sr. Deputy & Governor appointments. The RCNA Chapters has great info for CDN coin collectors which may lead to meetings &/or face-to-face or hands-on learning.  The Supplies section provides great references to a number of outlets where one can buy catalogues, PVC-free currency sleeves or currency catalogues. Hard copies are great resources that allow one to mull over his/her collector goals. Never underestimate a reference guide or a banknote catalogue!

If you want to take your hobby to the next level be sure to check out the forums at: the Paper Money Forum (US) Coin Community Forum (US), Numista (European), or the Canadian Paper Money Forum (Canadian) & keep involved.  Be sure to buy (or borrow) your nation's guide, or the Standard Catalog of World Paper Money (SCWPM- often called "Pick" or Krause Publication after the original editor/publishers) if you can. At least borrow your nation's reference catalogue from your local library.  And remember guides are often sold much cheaper USED & provide helpful info that online sites often miss.   You will be surprised how much different types of info can be gleaned by a book!  Try eBay, Amazon or your LCS for used copies!  Scroll down to the bottom of this page for the Supplies section.

NOTE: I have added a link to Greysheet & Track & Price below the Supplies section since these are both online catalogues which require a subscription (cost).
