Like Spain, Italy, & GB, Portugal was a colonial dynasty set about to conquer the world. Their banknotes reflect Imperial dominance that emerged from decades of dictatorships. You can find exceptional designs which reflect major world explorers, scientists and famous artists despite some of this nation's dark political chapters. Older series can be tough to scarce! And lets not forget the incredible Alves Reis debacle who managed to get Waterlow & Sons to reprint the 1922 500 Escudos! Modern issues have countless signature variations making it an adventure to seek the tough signature combinations of various Escudo denominations. There seems to be "no end in sight" for this popular pre-Euro nation (or at least that's what hfjacinto tells me)!
