At the age of five
I understood the mind of an adult
Its suffocating, hurtful and overwhelming
It's like a dark room with no way out
At the age of six
I heard the cries of a child
Not that of a child whose lost its toy
But of someone who's seen the darkness of this world
At the age of seven
My eyes opened new doors;
Where there is happiness there is despair
Where there is hope there is pessimism
Where there is light there is darkness
At the age of eight…The light….almost……di…minished
At the age of nine
My tears were dry
Tired of expecting the unfixed to be fixed
Tired of choosing a side
Tired of the weight that a child shouldn't have
Tired of the days repeating themselves
Over and
OVer and
OVEr and
OVER! Again
At the age of seventeen
I took a new train
Saw a new path
Felt the fresh breeze
And the sunrise smiled at me gracefully
What inspired me to write this is how constantly I've been pushing myself in life. I wasn't given the luxury of having a happy childhood. There were times when I did have happy memories but it wasn't always. In this poem I briefly explain how I saw the world through my eyes, how I felt about the constant struggle of my parents fighting everyday, and how I realize that all of it could be overcome in many different ways.
"Your poem is very nice! It tells a story, like we are almost walking on the path with you. I like the structure of the poem, how you played around with the structure at the end,
Tired of the days repeating themselves
Over and
OVer and
OVEr and
OVER! Again
I could visualize and imagine these words moving too. Good work with your poem, it shows a powerful message of determination and shows how brave you are too."

"I really liked the phrase "I took a new train. Saw a new path." because instead of getting stuck in that darkness you decided to find a new path and a better one for yourself."
