In competition of a World Cup, players come together, from 32 different countries having athletes to show their invisibilities for a patriotic goal. All they want is to accomplish something to make their flag shine amongst the rest, aside of all government issues, soccer brings anyone together. Those who don't accomplish it, go home with tears in their eyes but proud that they got qualified, but with the dream of making history and having the victory. The world sings two anthems per game, bringing in each team to pray.
Who do you support, Messi or Neymar? Both being from the Barcelona team, but now playing separately for Argentina and Brazil. Who do you support? Your favorite player or your national team, like Mexico vs. Argentina game, were you really a Messi fan or you went your way to your country's team? Who do you scream “GOOOOLLLL” for? Who are you against? Who are you going to pillow talk about?
Are you going to post on Instagram “ 2-0, Messi for the win” or “ Mexico, my beautiful country, you got it next year” what is it? Do you like this year's World Cup theme song? Or 2014 being “ Waka waka’ by Shakira. Who do you see carrying the world cup celebrating with tears of joy after winning the beautiful game? Are you my frenemy because of this sports rivalry? If so, I don't blame you because it's all part of the game.
My inspiration for this writing was the current Qatar World Cup and the feelings of suspense that it gives the fans and also players. There’s always mixed emotions during this event. It’s not any event, it’s an event that occurs every four years, where players of all nations come together and compete for the title of world champion country and represent their flag. It brings pride for their country, patience to see who wins and how many points they get by every goal they score, joy when the team scores or wins the match, rage when a player makes a mistake or the team loses, pain when the team gets eliminated from the world cup, exhaustion for players after every game and fans after cheering too loud, and many more. This was exactly the process of my writing, feeling every game that I watch, remembering the years when the world cup was held before 2022. Even as a child I felt for the people and players after every match. And now as a teenager I can feel and understand more because many of my childhood and recent favorite players are playing for their last world cup. The players that started young and now have gotten older, becoming less efficient and more weaker, those players who gave it their all these past years. My passion for the sport made me create this creative writing. The literary devices that I used were diction, sensory language, repetition, short sentences, and used a little bit of rhyme. I structured my poem in one whole stanza making it look like a paragraph. I am a person that could go on writing about the things I love or feel passionate about.
