Question: What is it like to have an ability that can make you kill someone just by touching them?
I am reading Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. Juliette Ferrars, a 17 year old girl with the ability to kill someone just by touching them, was treated like an abomination and monster all her life since the moment she discovered she had a lethal touch. She could not touch anyone her whole life, so I think having an ability like that can make you feel very lonely because of how people treated you and also touch deprived because no one would come near her. Once she started to learn more about her ability and control it she gained friends and learned that she can touch two other people without harming them, so she was not very lonely in the end.
My writing process was rereading the book Shatter Me, where Juliette was still isolated in the asylum and seeing how she felt being stuck there and seen as a monster because of the power she has to live with. The theme that I am exploring is how Juliette Ferrars feels having such a terrible power that can make you feel so lonely.
