I still remember when he hugged me,
His rough and dry hands
Leaving a weird sensation in my arm,
But it was precious because he loved,
He took care of me and entertained me.
And I’ll never forget when I saw how you died
And that last night,
I remember it was as dark and smooth as a
panther, and the rain growling and saying
Say goodbye to him.
That night I remember that we laughed, we cried, and
We both said sorry for what we’d done.
The next day we were on the horses riding then I remembered
He said, get down I'll be back ,and remember
I’ll always love you.
My grandpa was a good person. Everybody in the county knew him because he helped people without asking for anything back, so that's when I thought of making him a poem in his honor. My writing process was during my English class in 10th grade. It took me about 1 hour of class.
"I really enjoyed reading your poem. I liked the sensory language you used, such as "His rough and dry hands", because it allowed me to imagine his appearance. I also really liked the simile you used to compare how dark the night was to a panther. When reading your poem, I immediately thought of my abuelo, who sadly passed away a year ago, and I admire your vulnerability because I know how difficult it is to talk about a loved one who has passed away."

"This poem is beautifully written I love the way you describe that feeling of losing a loved one. The emotion behind your poem is incredible and as the reader I can really see that emotion through your writing."
