When I moved with my dad, during my 6th grade year, my brother and I were excited because we had always wanted to move somewhere else apart from Houston. My father lives in Florida, in a small town named Tallahassee, also known as the Capital of Florida. Tallahassee's weather is super nice, especially when summer comes around. The breeze hits your hot body and refreshes you like a cold water bottle. Tallahassee also has a very nice population with very sweet people.
My dad was in the middle of moving to a bigger house since the apartment he lived in was only for one person and he said we needed space to grow up in. His house was located near a park that was full of trees and animals and had a small dog park with an open field. The park was basically a forest; that's how I like to think about it because it screams nature, and once the sun starts setting you can feel the nice cold breeze.
Tally is also a nice place for teenagers to grow up in and also a very nice place that old people can go after they retire because everyone is very respectful and kind. My dad's house was also located very close to downtown and was about three minutes away from Florida State University's stadium, meaning that when the University played it was hard for us to get back home after school because there would be a lot of traffic and the streets would be filled with people throwing parades and cheering the players to win.
Living with my dad made my brother and I grow closer, and it also made us closer to my dad's side of the family. We had family nights where my uncles, cousins, and aunts would come over and have a family dinner every Saturday night. On Sundays we went to the park to play soccer, and after we played I would let my dog play in the open field with the other dogs. After playing and letting my dog play we would clean up and head to Checkers, where they had the best milkshakes ever and also the best fries. I miss Tallahassee, but I'm thankful for all the memories I have growing up there and the memories I continue making when I go visit my father for the holidays.
What inspired me to write this essay was the memories of how nice my 6th grade year was while I lived with my father. Living in Tallahassee and explaining it makes me feel happy because I can create an image in other people's heads and make them feel how I felt while telling them how nice it was living in Tallahassee and how nice the weather was. My writing process was easy because my memories just came like a flash, like I got to experience all my memories and relive them all over again. I added similes throughout my essay to compare things and I added imagery to create an image to the readers. The structure of my essay is the first paragraph where I explain why my brother and I were happy to move from Houston to Tallahassee and I also include the description of how Tallahassee is. My second paragraph explains where we lived and I explain where it's located and what's in the surroundings. In my third paragraph I tell readers why it’s a nice place for teenagers and old people to live. In the fourth paragraph I tell the readers how I lived my life there and how I felt. The theme I tried exploring was showing and creating an image to the reader so they could feel connected to my memories. I love talking about Tallahassee because I find comfort in my memories to make me feel happy once again.
"A part of a line I liked was," On Sundays we went to the park to play soccer...", this reminds me of my happy place. This was my grandma's old house and we'd always go over and play at the park across the street every week."
